The opportunity:

The Clinical Director is a key member of the executive team, responsible for leading the clinical strategy and ensuring the delivery of high-quality mental health services to children, young people, their carers and families. This role involves overseeing clinical governance, developing therapeutic programs, and ensuring that the organisation's services meet the highest standards of care and regulatory compliance.

The Clinical Director will collaborate with other executive team members to align clinical objectives with organisational goals, ensuring a holistic approach to mental health that incorporates cutting-edge research and therapeutic practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Leadership and Strategy
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive clinical strategy that addresses the unique needs of children and young people, along with their carers, families and support systems with mental health and developmental challenges.
    • Lead the clinical teams in the adoption of evidence-based (researched) and evidence informed (practice wisdom) practices and innovative therapeutic approaches.
    • Ensure that clinical services are integrated seamlessly with other organisational offerings to provide holistic support.
  • Governance and Compliance
    • Oversee clinical governance, ensuring compliance with national and international standards and regulations.
    • Maintain accreditation standards across all clinical services and programs.
    • Lead quality assurance and continuous improvement processes to enhance service delivery and client outcomes.
  • Program Development and Management
    • Design and evaluate therapeutic programs tailored to the specific mental health needs of children and young people, their carers, families and support systems.
    • Ensure programs are responsive to emerging trends and research in child and adolescent mental health and adverse childhood experiences.
    • Collaborate with academic and research institutions to promote and integrate the latest mental health research into practice.
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Provide clinical supervision and professional development opportunities for clinical staff.
    • Foster a culture of excellence, empathy, and innovation within the clinical team.
    • Recruit, mentor, and retain high-calibre clinical staff committed to the mission of the organisation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy
    • Represent the organisation in public forums, conferences, and media appearances to advocate for child and youth mental health particularly those with adverse childhood experiences.
    • Build partnerships with other mental health organisations, educational bodies, and community groups to promote integrated care.
    • Engage with families and caregivers to ensure that the organisation’s services are aligned with the needs and expectations of the communities served.
  • Clinical Load
    • Hold a small caseload to keep abreast of the work ACTG and it’s clinical staff performs

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Doctoral/master’s degree in psychology, Psychiatry, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a mental health setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and management of therapeutic programs for children and adolescents.
  • Strong leadership skills, with a proven ability to mentor and motivate a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A proven record of psychodynamic thinking and application.
  • Proven track record in delivery action based therapeutic interventions with children and young people.

  • Thorough understanding of trauma informed practice and the effects of complex trauma
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
  • Hold a valid Working with Children Check at all times and undergo Criminal Records Checks as required.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours, including interstate travel.
  • Technologically competent in Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent formal report writing skills
