NT Greens Party Manager - Flexible Location

Australian Greens

The Position

The NT Greens Party Manager will be a key part of building the Greens towards election wins in the Territory.

The NT Greens are growing. Celebrating record results across the NT in the federal election, and with elected Councillors in Darwin and the Barkly, we’re building the political alternative that the Territory sorely needs.

If you like working with your community to change things, we want to hear from you. Training and national support will be provided. Political experience helps, but if you’re good at steering a team to win, you should get in touch.

Expectations

The focus of the role will be to build the NT Greens for the Territory, federal and local elections in 2024-25. This will include:

  • Building and implementing winning campaign strategies with members and supporters.
  • Growing the member and volunteer base of the party, including First Nations members and volunteers, by supporting local organising teams and managing online systems.
  • Supporting volunteers to run issue campaigns and support their Greens Councillors.
  • Facilitating training for NT Greens members and supporters.
  • Driving long-term candidate recruitment and development.
  • Contributing to the political direction of the Greens in the NT and maintaining media and policy stakeholder relationships.
  • Building a strong financial base for the party through fundraising.
  • Being the Territory contact for Greens nationally, including MPs.
  • Supporting the Management Committee to administer the party and continuing party-building efforts in governance and systems use.
  • Facilitating the development and implementation of election and organisational strategies.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • An understanding of, and commitment to, Greens principles.
  • Experience in organising and managing large and complex projects.
  • Experience in working with, developing and/or implementing strategic plans.
  • Experience in managing and supervising volunteers, with a focus on positive team culture and welfare.
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining strong relationships and buy-in for a shared strategy with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • An appropriate Australian or New Zealand work visa (if applicable).

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Experience in election campaigning for the Greens or progressive organisations.
  • A track record of working in the Territory.
  • Experience in working with and presenting to volunteer boards.
  • An understanding of online communications tools and systems.
  • Experience in managing media and media strategy.
  • Experience working with First Nations people and communities.
  • Experience in fundraising.
  • Commitment to remaining in the role until December 2025.

Key Relationships

  • Reports to the Management Committee of the NT Greens, alongside day-to-day supervision arrangements. Works closely with the Australian Greens National Office.
  • Direct supervision of volunteers. If offered the role, you will need to get a Working With Children check and a National Police Check.
  • NT Greens members, supporters, volunteers and donors.
  • Local stakeholders including relevant NGOs, organisations and activist groups

Location

The role is based in Garramilla/Darwin or Mparntwe/Alice Springs. We are open to flexible working arrangements and working from other locations in the NT for the right candidate.

The role will include travel within the NT as well as occasional interstate travel, for which a budget is provided, along with a budget for office space or home office setup.

Conditions

This is a full-time position with a starting annual salary of $88,424, plus 10.5% superannuation. Applicants wishing to work 4 days a week are encouraged to apply. This is a fixed-term contract to December 2025. Both salary and super increase annually under the Australian Greens Collective Agreement.

The funding arrangements for the role will be reviewed in 2024-25 and the role may be extended.

The NT Greens Party Manager is entitled to 6 weeks of paid annual leave and 10 days of personal leave. The Party Manager is an employee of the NT Greens and is subject to the conditions of the Australian Greens Staff Collective Agreement. This role is at Level 5 of the Support 2 classification under our Collective Agreement.

The position requires working with volunteer governance bodies within the Greens, as well as with staff employed by the Australian Greens around the country. As such some irregular hours and weekend work will be required. The position will receive handover and training from Greens staff, including the former Party Development Manager.
