An exciting opportunity exists for a suitably experienced applications developer to join the world leading DigiVol collection digitisation project at the Australian Museum. The DigiVol project engages online volunteers in digitising content from museum, herbaria and library collections around the world.

About the Role

We are looking for an Applications Developer to develop and implement software solutions to improve the performance of the DigiVol platform, fix known bugs and develop new functionality and features to support the evolving requirements of users and to meet the goals of the DigiVol Program as defined by the Australian Museum.

You will be paid a competitive annual salary $120,859 - $133,183, plus employer's contribution to superannuation (currently 11%) and annual leave loading.

About you

We are seeking an experienced Grails software developer to lead the development of the DigiVol Citizen Science crowdsourcing platform.

You will have experience in and/or understanding of :

  • NoSQL database technologies (MongoDB, Cassandra)
  • RDF, OWL, SPARQL
  • GeoServer / MapServer and a familiarity with OGC standards
  • PostGresQL or MySQLor other GIS enabled databases
  • GitHub resource repository
  • XML technologies, particularly XSD, XPath and/or XSLT
  • Biodiversity data standards including TDWG standards

You will:

  • Have a creative and innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Be a team player with a strong commitment to team-based processes and outcomes.
  • Be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work effectively under limited supervision.

Knowledge & Experience

At least 3 years of experience in application of the following technologies:

  • Java & Grails technologies
  • RDBMS, particularly MySQL or PostgreSQL
  • ElasticSearch, Lucene, SOLR or other search index technology
  • JSON and GeoJSON
  • Struts, Struts2, Spring MVC or another MVC based development framework
  • GitHub resource repositories

Essential requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
