Do you have a passion for leading groups and mentoring young people with autism?
Specialising in delivering services to young people with autism (10 years to young adult). Some of our participants may present with complex needs, eg co-morbid conditions, including mental health needs.
We are committed to providing opportunities for young people to build meaningful friendships, and to reach their true potential in life. We achieve this through the delivery of social groups, and community day and overnight Adventures. Our services are tailored to participant’s individual interests, wants and needs.
Our social groups provide young people with autism the opportunity to meet like-minded people and make friends, in an environment that is safe, supportive and conducive to building their confidence in social situations. We currently run groups for 10–14 year-olds, and for 15 years + (to mid 20s). A facilitated support segment is run, where there is group discussion on an autism-related topic.
The Social Group Leader is responsible for facilitating social groups for young people with autism in accordance with the organisational model of service delivery. This is a rewarding opportunity for you to make a positive change in a young person’s life by supporting them to build friendships, develop their self-esteem, reduce social isolation, and expand their social and communication skills.
The right candidate will have experience and confidence in facilitating and leading youth groups, including providing a safe environment for active participation in group discussions. You will be fun and outgoing and have demonstrated experience in motivating, empowering and nurturing youth.
You are a positive role model and will provide general advice in different areas, such as social and communication skills development, healthy relationships, resolving conflicts, and help devise strategies for overcoming any difficulties. You will have proactive ideas to promote engagement within social group sessions.
