Position Context:
Avenue Neighbourhood House @ Eley (ANH@E) is a very vibrant and strong Neighbourhood House that has been operating for over 30 years within the City of Whitehorse. The House’s core focus is to engage with disadvantaged people and those at risk of social isolation, including people with a disability, older persons and concession card holders. Through the provision of a diverse range of education, social and recreational activities, individuals are able to forge community connections and reduce social isolations.
Avenue Neighbourhood House is the only not for profit Registered Training Organisation operating in Whitehorse, specialising in the provision of accredited educational courses for people with low literacy and numeracy skills.
The role of the Program and Marketing Coordinator is to work under the direction of the Manager to ensure the Neighbourhood House offers diverse and appealing programs, activities and events that respond to local needs and helps to build inclusiveness, tolerance and a strong sense of community.
It is expected that the Program Coordinator will exercise initiative, expertise and cultural sensitivity to ensure all operations are delivered effectively and efficiently to all stakeholders and will meet all compliance requirements.
The position also encompasses a marketing role, focusing on the development and implementation of effective marketing strategies for the House, including.
- Marketing opportunities to expand / enhance our exposure.
- Desktop publishing to produce marketing and administration material, in particular, the Semester Booklet and the Annual General Report.
- Maintenance / upgrade of Website.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning and Programming:
- Introduce innovative programming and activities considering demographics and community needs.
- Liaise with prospective and current tutors on matters pertaining to program delivery and development, both face to face and online.
- Oversee current programs, maintain relationships with current tutors and group leaders to enhance the delivery of programs.
Marketing and Publicity
- Create and maintain a strategic marketing schedule to forward plan and coordinate advertising and event opportunities.
- Organise the content and production of marketing and promotional materials including term course guides, flyers, and any other ongoing and ad hoc materials.
General Duties:
- Work effectively as part of a small team.
- Contribute in meetings with suggestions and acknowledgements to support the continuous improvement of administrative, online and management systems.
- Assist as required with general administration including reception, helping with course enquiries and enrolments.
- Use initiative in activities that contribute to the presentation of the house and enhance community enjoyment, e.g. spot cleaning, setting up for functions, greeting participants.
- Assist with the review, update and development of policies and procedures that involve tutors and course participants
- Other duties as directed by Manager.
Key Selection Criteria:
Essential:
- Demonstrated ability to successfully plan, research, implement and evaluate programs and activities, preferably in a community or adult education environment.
- Experience in using all aspect of social media to promote the house.
- Proven experience in the design and implementation of a marketing strategy.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Comprehensive IT skills in Microsoft Office suite, desktop publishing software such as Canva and familiarity with website administration.
- Advanced problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multi-task and respond in a calm manner to competing demands.
- Experience in working within a culturally diverse community.
Highly Desirable:
- A good understanding of Neighbourhood Houses and/or the Not for Profit sector.
- Demonstrated capacity to coordinate, encourage and work well alongside fellow staff, tutors, house participants and volunteers.
- Marketing experience especially related to the use of social media.
Salary and conditions
- Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Neighbourhood House and Adult Community Education Centres Collective Agreement, Schedule A Level 6.
- 15 hours per week, days to be negotiated.
