We’re looking for an Emergency Nurse Educator who can live and volunteer in the Solomons for between 6 and 12 months. 

• You will be working closely with the Emergency Department Head Nurse and nurse educator to work to improve patient care through improved systems and processes and promoting teamwork and collaboration as well as providing training as needed.
• To be considered for this role, you’ll need at least 5 years experience as a Registered Emergency Nurse in an emergency department. Experience should include paediatrics and advanced triage education skills.
• You will working with the team to sustainably support better healthcare outcomes in the Solomons.

About the Partner Organisation 

The Solomon Islands Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS), based in Honiara, is responsible for the management and delivery of the health and medical services for the population of Solomon Islands. MHMS consists of the following units: Health Improvement, Health Care, Health Policy and Planning, and Administration and Management.

Its principal activities are: Provision of secondary and tertiary clinical care for people living in Solomon Islands; Provision of clinical training attachment for medical interns, residents and nurses; Provision of specialist clinical services and support to the provinces; Ensuring patient care is of high quality; and Evaluating and facilitating overseas referral to St Vincent Hospital, Sydney, for patients needing more highly specialised treatment. Solomon Islands sends a significant number of students away to train in universities around the world, the majority of them would attend universities in Cuba, Fiji, PNG, Taiwan and China.

The Emergency Department is the focal point of entry into the National Referral Hospital and is often crowded, and busy, and operates with little reserve capacity. To improve its capacity and capability, the emergency department has been fortunate to have had four previous ED nurse advisors in this role, who have each contributed to improve clinical standards, training and resources. Due to the success of the previous volunteers the department would like a volunteer to continue their good work.

Requirements

• All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
• A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
• A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
