Rare opportunity to join the Australian Volunteers Program as the Public Diplomacy Manager!

AVI supports the implementation of the Australian Volunteers Program on behalf of the Australian Government. The Australian Volunteers Program enables skilled Australian volunteers to support partner organisations in 26 countries across the Pacific, Asia and Africa to progress their development objectives.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Public Diplomacy Manager is a key member of the senior executive team and is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive, strategic communications and public diplomacy approach for the Australian Volunteers Program. This role will lead a program of work to build vibrant networks of influence, establish connections with domestic and international stakeholders and ultimately enhance the visibility of the Australian aid program in Australia and overseas.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

This role will suit someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing communications, marketing and stakeholder engagement strategies, plans, systems and processes.
  • Thorough understanding of current communication and media best practice and trends.
  • Creative and innovative approach to communications and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proven strategic and operational planning capability, including ability to develop and manage to a project budget.
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis communications and risk management.
  • Understanding of the Australian Government’s development cooperation program.
  • Experience working with DFAT is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of communication professionals to deliver high quality, strategic communications that progress organisational objectives.
  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills, including a proven ability to develop, maintain and manage complex internal and external relationships.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills including ability to employ tact and diplomacy with external stakeholders.
  • Problem solving and critical judgement and the ability to recognise when an issue or decision requires escalation.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Communications, Media/Public Relations or equivalent experience.
