We’re looking for passionate people to join our voluntary Board of Directors at the Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC).

The AYCC is committed to maintaining a strong and diverse Board where individual members bring unique strengths to the AYCC.
We’re searching for the following skills, experience and expertise:
A strong understanding of climate change, and a commitment to the role of young people in tackling it, and people with any one or more of these skill sets:
- Fundraising - major donors, monthly donor programs and digital acquisition
- Finances - experience navigating budget forecasts and financial sustainability
- Lived experience - Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people (stipend available), Pacific Islander, Climate/fossil fuel frontline, Disabled people, working class
- Change management - leadership support, structure, work planning
- Campaigns and organising - impact evaluation, strategic planning and project management
- Governance - compliance and risk management
The role of the AYCC Board
AYCC Directors are responsible for:
- Protecting the mission of the AYCC and support the organisation in building a generation-wide movement to solve the climate crisis,
- Ensuring long term strategy is in place, including developing, evaluating and refining the organisation’s strategic plan
- Ensuring organisational oversight, including approval of major strategic and financial decisions,
- Ensuring the organisation remains compliant to regulatory bodies,
- Selecting, supporting and reviewing the performance of the National Director,
- Driving annual organisation review and risk review process,
- Ensuring the organisation uses its finances in a sustainable way, and
- Providing expert and strategic advice to the National Director as required.

Requirements of Board members
All AYCC Board members are required to:
- Bring a strong commitment to the mission of AYCC the climate movement,
- Have knowledge and skills in one or more areas of: organisational strategy, campaign strategy, governance, fundraising, risk management, legal, finance, youth engagement, issue expertise, climate change, organisational management, community organising, human resources/people and culture, and innovation,
- Be willing and able to oversee governance & strategy matters,
- Be available for Board duties, including:
- 5 x 1-day board meetings per year (face to face meetings take place in Melbourne, when permitted) for purposes such as: strategic planning, operational planning, board evaluation, or National Director transition;
- 2 hours pre-reading for each board meeting;
- Ability to serve on at least one committee as required (subcommittees include: finance, risk, transition management, remuneration, fundraising); and
- One major annual AYCC event each year (e.g. Power Shift conference)
- Be aware of and abstain from any conflict of interest.
We ask that all Board members commit to an availability of at least 2-3 hours per fortnight for their Board duties. Board meetings are held quarterly (currently via Zoom but in-person once a year), finance sub-committee meetings are monthly via Zoom.
Board Member Terms
Directors serve on the Board on a voluntary and unpaid basis. Applicants who can commit to serving a minimum of 3 years on the Board will be looked on favourably.
