About the Role

We’re looking for a young person with skills in communications, digital campaigning and storytelling to help implement our campaigns through the first half of 2025!

The role will include rolling out strategic communications and creative content during the Federal Election, raising the profile of the youth climate movement through digital platforms, and holding the line on politicians to keep climate commitments in the first 100 days of a new parliament.

This short-term role is a great entry-level opportunity for a young person with some digital communications and content creation experience.

About AYCC

The AYCC is a non-profit, non-partisan organisation building a movement of young people to protect our future from climate change. We are Australia’s largest youth-led organisation and one of the most effective organisations dedicated to tackling climate change, with hundreds volunteers nationally and more than 200,000 supporters. Our major program areas are:

  1. Campaigns to solve the climate crisis - We run bold campaigns to make sure Australia moves from fossil fuels to renewable energy as quickly as possible. Our current national campaign is focussed on holding back fossil fuel expansion, particularly new climate-wrecking gas projects. Through community organising, digital tactics, media and political engagement, we are working to stop the funding, social licence and political support for gas expansion.
  2. Training & movement building: AYCC’s power comes from community organising and a network of grassroots action groups across the continent. Our movement is radically inclusive, equitable and accessible, and prides itself on its diversity and scale. We empower volunteers to take on meaningful leadership and responsibility while supporting each other to learn and grow. Each year thousands of young people participate in our online, in-school and in-person training programs to build their skills and confidence to take action on climate change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write campaign and supporter comms – that includes video scripts, emails, text blasts, website copy, digital ads, and more;
  • Produce creative social media and online content such as TikToks, Reels, Instagram posts and more (this could include attending events and bird-dogging candidates);
  • Use AYCC’s digital systems including NationBuilder and Facebook Ads Manager to reach new and existing supporters, and track engagement;
  • Collaborate with the National Campaigner and Campaigns and Communications Director on strategy, identifying key moments to create campaign impact using digital tools;
  • Other duties as required by the organisation from time to time

Your Core Skills and Attributes:

We’re a youth organisation, so we don’t expect you to be an expert at everything. We’re committed to building the skills of the successful candidate and supporting you to grow. Even if you don’t fit all the attributes below, but are keen to learn, you should apply!

  • You’re a confident and creative communicator, who can create content for a range of audiences and platforms comfortably
  • You share a commitment to AYCC’s mission and values of climate justice
  • You’re trustworthy, reliable, can work independently and love learning
  • You have experience with Canva, Adobe Suite, CapCut or video editing tools
  • Experience with NationBuilder, CRM management, digital advertising platforms or similar would be great!
  • Availability 2-3 business days per week for the duration of the contract

Travel and Hours

From time to time, you may be required to travel to perform the duties of the position without any additional remuneration. Your travel expenses will be covered. You’ll be able to take advantage of AYCC’s flexible and remote working policies, though you may be required to work outside of ordinary hours during key moments or events.
