Background:

This is an exciting and varied part-time HR Manager position that reports to the Chief Operating Officer of a thriving Australian design studio. This stand-alone role spans across the full suite of HR functions of our commercial business that has exposure to all divisions, including Finance, Design, Projects, Community Engagement, Business Development and Communications.

A passion for providing resourcing solutions is essential for this position. You will be a positive, proactive and calm professional with keen attention to detail and have a solutions-focused approach to challenges. IT proficiency is needed, as are exceptional interpersonal skills in relation to both internal and external stakeholders.

Founded in 1983 by its Chair and Cultural Director, Yanyuwa man John Moriarty and Managing Director and Creative Executive, Ros Moriarty. As an award-winning agency our founders are recognised for their design excellence and unparalleled contribution to building bridges of best practice participation between Aboriginal communities, business and the broader community.

We assist our national and international clients to express Australian identity through best practice co-design with Country and community, for construction, interiors, public art, digital and design and communications. The company’s work spans graphic design, branding, digital, infrastructure, urban design, precinct planning, public art and curatorial and interiors.

Key Duties:

  • Continue to develop and oversee the HR strategy for the business which integrates with the overall Balarinji strategy.
  • In collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer and Management Team, provide input across a range of HR initiatives including retention, induction, team culture, check-ins, development plans, and pipeline relationships.
  • Provide support on a broad range of complex HR issues, offering solutions in line with organisational priorities and in accordance with industrial relations requirements, compliance, legislation, Fair Work Awards, workers compensation as well as providing coaching for leaders across the organisation.
  • Leading and managing the recruitment strategy and implementation including posting roles, talent search, screening, interviewing and reference checking.
  • Coordinate new staff onboarding – permanent, contract, casual and Associates.
  • Coordinate off boarding of leavers, conduct exit interviews, and any required followed up.
  • Partnering with the Chief Operating Officer to build capability across the company, driving a learning culture, identifying training requirements and development plans.
  • Work with the Chief Operating Officer to make recommendations for salary increases in line with industry standards and staff performance.
  • Oversee implementation and compliance with policies and procedure. Ensure staff are educated across these policies and procedures, they are signed-off by staff, and that that they are adhered to.
  • Drive stakeholder relationships with key Universities, other identified educational institutions and Indigenous organisations with a goal of driving talent capacity and talent pipeline.
  • Maintain the Associate Database in collaboration with the Project Management Team.
  • Oversee internal HR communications to all staff in partnership with the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Apply efficient HR administration and file management.
  • Where required, provide support and input into identified strategic projects that affect HR across the organisation.

Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in disciplines including Human Resources as a major component of the qualification.
  • An HR professional, with 5+ years of demonstrated experience.
  • Proven experience in writing policies, procedures, risk plans, and managing areas of HR compliance and governance.
  • Demonstrated excellence in commercial or the NFP sector.
  • Ability to analyse data and produce accurate and informative reports.
  • Experience in MS Office, Google Suite, Smartsheets, Asana and Xero experience preferred but not essential.
