About the Role

Baptcare is a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Local Area Coordination (LAC) Partner delivering NDIS LAC services in South Australia. We provide a full induction program with ongoing training to support your development.

The Local Area Coordinator (LAC) partners with the person with disability, their families, and other supports to implement actions as identified in their NDIS plan. Intervention may be as a single session response to people in immediate need or ongoing support to assist people with disability to access the services they need to improve and maintain their quality of life. The LAC will work with local organisations to build awareness, capacity and improve opportunity for people with disability to access and actively participate in community activities.  

Responsibilities

As a Local Area Coordinator, you will:

  • Support people with disability, carers and their families to access information, enter the Scheme and/or transition smoothly into the Scheme.
  • Work in the communities, support the functioning of local Baptcare offices, and meet participants in their homes to deliver services.
  • Support people to develop and implement their NDIS plans.
  • Provide information on mainstream supports and link participants to access and actively participate in community activities.
  • Work with local communities and mainstream supports to develop their understanding and capacity to support people with disabilities.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Communication - demonstrated communication skills and experience in collecting and collating key information and criteria.
  • Organisation and Planning – demonstrated comprehensive assessment and planning skills.
  • Problem solving - able to work within complex environments and be outcome focused.
  • Continuous development - ability to accept constructive feedback from supervisors and stakeholders and apply continuous learning to keep abreast of developments in the industry.
  • Service delivery - outstanding ability to support people with a disability to set reach their goals.
  • Collaboration – ability to work within a team environment by sharing information, supporting colleagues and respecting different skills.
  • Influencing skills – demonstrated ability to motivate others and act as a change agent through strengths based, person cantered practice.
  • Adaptive behaviour - demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children and vulnerable people.

About You

You are passionate about continuing to grow your career in the Family and Community Services space. Solutions focused and up for making a difference, you align your approach to strategy to achieve organisational and divisional goals.

You will ideally bring the following:

Technical Expertise:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the Disability, Child, Youth and Family Services sector, including Child Protection, the requirements of the Disability Services Act 2011, and the Children, Young Persons and their Families Act 1997 and other key legislative reforms.
  • Experience in working with children and with vulnerable people.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to travel independently.
  • Current satisfactory national police check or willingness to obtain.
  • Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain.
  • Competency in using the range of Office computer packages.
  • Certification in the DHS Safe Environments: Through Their Eyes training within the last 3 years.
  • Comprehensive private vehicle insurance and registration in the event private vehicles are required for work purposes.
  • Full and ongoing Right to Work in Australia.
