About the Barkly Region

The Barkly Region covers more than 320,000 km2 stretching from the old Telegraph Station at Barrow Creek in the south to the historical droving township of Newcastle Waters in the north. Located approximately 1000km south of Darwin and 500km north of Alice Springs. Tennant Creek has a population of 3,252 and is the largest town in the region.

Facilities

Tennant Creek has a well-stocked IGA and several other specialist retail businesses along with a number of cafes, pubs and clubs. Along with a private medical centre the Barkly region’s health needs are met with a 20-bed hospital located in Tennant Creek. Both a primary school and high school are located in Tennant Creek along with a new and modern Youth Centre.

The Barkly Regional Council is the second-largest Local Government by land mass in Australia. The estimated population of the Barkly Regional Council is 6,316 spread over 7 communities (2 regional towns and 5 remote communities). Employing 250 staff, of whom 67% are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, we are committed to delivering services for residents of the region.

About the Role

Barkly Regional Council is seeking a committed and proactive Community Care Coordinator to support the operational and strategic delivery of our Aged Care and Disability Programs. This role works closely with the Regional Manager Community Care to ensure programs such as the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program (NATSIFACP) and the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) meet the Aged Care Quality Standards and Council’s funding and reporting requirements.If you are passionate about community care, program coordination, and empowering remote communities, we would love to hear from you!

The Essentials

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent in Management, Aged Care of NDIS programs.
  • Demonstrated experience using online programs such as E-Tools, DEX, Medicare, My Aged Care, PRODA, and Centrelink.
  • People management experience and demonstrate competence in mentoring, capacity building, and training of staff.
  • Understanding relevant legislation, policies and procedures of Aged Care and the NDIS Programs.
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Current National Criminal History Check.
  • Current Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card – Northern Territory).

  • You have excellent organisational skills, problem-solving ability, and clear communication.
  • You demonstrate a collaborative, adaptable, and team-focused approach to working across diverse teams and communities.
  • You are willing and able to travel within the Barkly region, including overnight stays as required.

The Finer Details

  • Full-Time Permanent position paying Level 9 of the Barkly Regional Council Enterprise Agreement 2023.
  • Annual Salary of $91,220.34 per annum ($3,508.47 gross per fortnight).
  • Tennant Creek Zone Allowance of $1.89 per ordinary hour.
  • 11.5% Superannuation. 
  • Annual Leave of 6 weeks paid with 17.5% Leave Loading.

  • Relocation Assistance of up to $5,000.00. 
  • Housing subsidy of up to $330 gross per week may be available to external applicants.

Barkly Regional Council requires that all applicants have a National Criminal History Check. You will be required to provide a recent National Criminal History Check prior to any offer of employment.

Barkly Regional Council requires the applicant to be able to produce or be able to obtain a Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) prior to commencement. Interviews may be scheduled before the closing date and as applications are received.
