About the Barkly Region

The Barkly Region covers more than 320,000 km2 stretching from the old Telegraph Station at Barrow Creek in the south to the historical droving township of Newcastle Waters in the north. Located approximately 1000km south of Darwin and 500km north of Alice Springs. Tennant Creek has a population of 3,252 and is the largest town in the region.

Tennant Creek has a well-stocked IGA and several other specialist retail businesses along with a number of cafes, pubs and clubs. Along with a private medical centre the Barkly region’s health needs are met with a 20-bed hospital located in Tennant Creek. Both a primary school and high school are located in Tennant Creek along with a new and modern Youth Centre.

About the Role

Barkly Regional Council is seeking a passionate and experienced Specialist DFV Coordinator to lead the delivery of essential Safe House support services for individuals and families experiencing domestic and family violence (DFV) across the region. This vital role emphasises providing impactful services to children, young people, and families while fostering meaningful collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

The Essentials

  • Relevant formal qualifications or equivalent experience in DFV programs.
  • High-level of competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook including use of database and data reporting programs. Specialist DFV Coordinator.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing support to children and young people in the context of domestic, family, and sexual violence.
  • Cultural competence, especially in working with Aboriginal communities and an awareness of the current issues faced by victims of domestic, family and sexual violence.
  • Proven history of developing and maintaining productive working relationships with key external stakeholders and referrers.
  • Current Manual (C-Class) Driver’s Licence and have completed or are willing to undertake 4WD training.
  • Current National Police Criminal History Check (within the last 3 months).
  • Current Northern Territory Working with Children’s Clearance (Ochre Card).

  • You are a compassionate and skilled professional with experience in DFV service coordination or a related field.
  • You have a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals and families, particularly in remote settings.
  • Your ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, manage resources effectively, and deliver positive outcomes sets you apart.

The Finer Details

  • Full-Time position paying Above EBA Award Classification of the Barkly Regional Council Enterprise Agreement 2023.
  • Annual Salary of $115,500 per annum ($4,442.31 gross per fortnight).
  • 11.5% Superannuation.
  • Annual Leave of 6 weeks paid with 17.5% Leave Loading.
