Full-Time Temporary Position (38 hours per week)(End date: 30th June 2028 - subject to funding)

The Barkly Region covers more than 320,000 km2 stretching from the old Telegraph Station at Barrow Creek in the south to the historical droving township of Newcastle Waters in the north. Located approximately 1000km south of Darwin and 500km north of Alice Springs. Tennant Creek has a population of 3,252 and is the largest town in the region.
Located on the Sandover Highway, 325 km from Alice Springs, Ampilatwatja is a vibrant cultural hub known for its stunning Aboriginal art, strong community spirit, and outdoor lifestyle.
The community offers a school, health centre, and a local store, with recreational opportunities including AFL, basketball, camping, and waterhole swimming.
The Barkly Regional Council is the second-largest Local Government by land mass in Australia. The estimated population of the Barkly Regional Council is 6,316 spread over 7 communities (2 regional towns and 5 remote communities). The Youth, Sport and Recreation Team Leader – Ampilatwatja is the first point of contact for community youth, sport, and recreation. This position is responsible for establishing and building positive collaborative relationships with the community in accordance with Council strategies and policies pertaining to facility access and use.This position coordinates the planning and development of Youth, Sport, and Recreation Programs within the community through their understanding and awareness of current issues and opportunities
Barkly Regional Council requires that all applicants have a National Criminal History Check. You will be required to provide a recent National Criminal History Check prior to any offer of employment.Barkly Regional Council requires the applicant to be able to produce or be able to obtain a Working with Children Check Northern Territory (Ochre Card) prior to commencement.
