Purpose of the Position
Director VET Business Operations plays a key role to drive consistent best practice in the strategic and administrative operations of the VET Division ensuring compliance with current ASQA and AQF standards, the delivery of VET training and assessment of clients, and responsibility for the development, review and management of the Institute’s VET funding contracts with NT and Federal Government Departments, third parties and Fee for Service delivery within the NT and interstate. The learning and teaching of Indigenous Australians is fundamental to this role.
Given the multi-campus responsibility associated with this role, the position is required to travel across all BI campuses frequently. This is an inherent requirement of this role.
Duties
- Provide advice and updates to the Senior Executive Team (SET) on all aspects of the Division’s financial, operational and reporting performances and strategic business decisions.
- Deliver VET training and assessments in accordance with the strategic direction of the Institute.
- Consult, negotiate, influence, collaborate, establish and maintain relationships with a broad range of stakeholders to develop and implement strategies in VET to achieve strategic goals.
- Develop, review and manage the Institute’s VET Funding contracts with Australian and NT Government departments, Third Parties and Fee for Service delivery within the NT and interstate. Manage, mentor and coach a team of senior VET trainers across a range of industry areas and ensure the maintenance of their professional currency Work with the Quality, Governance and Student Administration teams to meet legislated reporting obligations ensuring regulatory compliance (including but not limited to ASQA and AQF standards).
- Through the provision of monthly, quarterly and annual reports, ensure that senior VET staff and SET are informed of trends in training demand, delivery performance and outcomes in the context of the training contracts and future business opportunities.
- Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with other departments and divisions within the Institute to achieve strategic goals.
- Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by your line manager.
Selection Criteria
- Diploma in Training and Assessment TAE40122 combined with a Tertiary qualification in Adult Education, Management or Business or demonstrated minimum four years’ experience in a senior position in Vocational Education and Training
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Australian Skills Quality Authority, training packaging requirements, AVETMISS and experience with government funded programs and the reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of State and Federal training funding
- Demonstrated successful experience in managing, motivating and leading a team of professionals in an RTO or Education environment, in pursuit of excellence in service quality and delivery.
- Experience in business development and grant, tender or proposal writing.
- Ability to maintain composure, balance workload and conflicting priorities and effectively handle difficult situations.
- Demonstrated change management, project management and administrative skills including the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with industry stakeholders, build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and represent the Institute in various forums
- Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the Institute’s structure, functions and objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to manage culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
- Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
