The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

Reporting to the Health Safety and Wellbeing Specialist, the Health Safety and Wellbeing and Injury Management Adviser is integral to the successful management of return-to-work programs across Ahpra’s offices and provides specialist advice and management of compensable and non-compensable injuries. The role reports to and works closely with the Health Safety and Wellbeing Specialist to deliver best practice approaches for incident management and issues affecting worker wellbeing, while supporting the creation of effective management plans and resources to reduce emerging and known physical and psychosocial hazards in the workplace.

The role is responsible for the thorough and strategic analysis of key health, safety and wellbeing metrics and making strong recommendations to the Health, Safety and Wellbeing leadership for remedial actions as well as annual compliance program delivery.

About you 

You will be a professional HSW Advisor with your experience gained from complex and diverse organisations with national reach.  You provide proactive and pragmatic advice and work alongside a small, professional team that has an enterprise wide impact. Your ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels within Ahpra but also external (Insurers, suppliers) to foster a collaborative, safe and engaging workplace is one of your strengths. As an individual, your ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships will be one of the keys to your success as will your agility and adaptability in working in dynamic environments.

You will be proactive in providing what you identify as opportunities for improvement and be a key support for positive change – a key project in this role is reviewing insurance premiums and evaluation of their effectiveness. As the ideal candidate, you will also have: 

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (Allied Health preferred) or commensurate experience managing national Injury Management programs
  • Certification as a rehabilitation and return to work coordinator in at least one state/jurisdiction with experience in multiple jurisdictions
  • A positive, solutions focused mindset with critical thinking to support business outcomes  
  • Strong communications skills with the ability to confidently engage with stakeholders and peers at all levels
  • Demonstrate professional, proactive, accurate, efficient, confidential and customer focused support
