About the Role:

The Bayside City Council ‘Sustainability Strategy Officer’ drives achievement of the goals set out in the Bayside Environmental Sustainability Framework and Climate Emergency Action Plan. The role requires planning and delivery of projects, programs and services to accelerate action on climate change and minimise our impact on the environment.

Using your highly valued skills and experience in project management and your ability to work collaboratively, you will help deliver sustainable outcomes for both Council and the community. You will have qualifications in sustainability, environmental science, carbon accounting, policy or planning, or similar. Additional skills in monitoring and evaluation and experience in local government will be highly valued. This position reports to the Climate and Environmental Sustainability Coordinator.

You will be responsible for:

  • Achieving organisational best practice in relation to environmental sustainability.
  • Improving environmental sustainability through influence on organisational policies and programs.
  • Preparing and delivering climate and environmental sustainability related projects for the community to improve infrastructure and emission reductions.
  • Recording, managing and analysing data to report on environmental performance.

Key Selection Criteria:

To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and competencies:

  • A suitable tertiary qualification in one or more of the following fields: sustainability; environmental science, policy or planning; carbon accounting; or similar; or up to 5 year’s relevant experience. Experience in Local Government is preferred, but not essential.
  • Demonstrated high level skills in project initiation, management and delivery, research and analysis, monitoring and evaluation, sustainable resource management, data management and environmental sustainability reporting.
  • Ability to work autonomously to plan, develop and manage the delivery of key sustainability strategies, projects and programs, while contributing to the development of new initiatives.
  •  Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with a team to deliver project outcomes, to influence and support others to deliver projects, and to effectively manage contractors and/or consultants.
  • Sound understanding of climate change and environmental sustainability principles, current practices and issues.

Mandatory pre-employment requirements:

  • Be willing to undergo and complete a satisfactory criminal history check.
  • Provide or obtain an employment-based Working with Children check.
