Exciting opportunity to join a major local government climate alliance, based at one of Melbourne's largest municipalities.

The Western Alliance for Greenhouse Action (WAGA) is a partnership of seven local governments in the west of Melbourne. We work collaboratively to respond to climate change in our organisations and encourage our communities – residents and businesses – to make the transition to a zero carbon society and become climate-resilient.

The position is based at Brimbank City Council, WAGA’s host council. Brimbank is a local government that is welcoming, diverse and proud - just like the community we serve. WAGA is embedded in Brimbank’s Climate Emergency and Environment Department.

We are currently seeking a staff member to join the WAGA team full-time for 12 months, based at Brimbank’s offices in Sunshine.

The role

Reporting to the WAGA Executive Officer, we are seeking a Project Officer who can bring their skills and experience to support:

  • Design, delivery and evaluation of WAGA’s projects in line with WAGA’s strategic plan and annual work plans
  • WAGA’s administration including working with the WAGA Operational Committee, Executive Committee and working groups.

To be considered you will have:

  • Ability to work in accordance with our values and behaviours
  • A relevant degree qualification in climate change, sustainability, environmental management, education or related field with relevant experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of the climate emergency and solutions
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills, and ability to distil simple messages to inform and educate different audiences including government and industry stakeholders
  • Experience collating and analysing information to ensure an evidence-based approach to decision making, advocacy and program design, delivery, and improvement
  • Experience in researching, developing, communicating, seeking approval for and coordinating programs and projects involving many stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage budgets and related financial information.
