Located on Gadigal and Bidjigal land (Randwick NSW), Black Dog Institute is the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the full lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. For over 20 years, we have been at the forefront of mental health research and have maintained a reputation as the face of mental health research and treatment in Australia.
Through our unique ‘translational’ research approach, we turn our world-class research into treatments, prevention strategies, clinical services, educational programs, and e-health products. The Role
The Black Dog Institute has been contracted by the NSW Government to provide a multi-level education and training program to NSW small-to-medium businesses and not-for-profits as part of the Mentally Healthy Workplaces Strategy. The strategy aims to support NSW employers, leaders, and workers to take effective action to create mentally health workplaces.
We are looking for a highly motivated Evaluation Officer to join our project team, which oversees stakeholder engagement, implementation, and evaluation of our education program activities. The Evaluation Officer will provide high-level coordination and support to the Mentally Healthy Workplaces evaluation plan. Specifically, the role will focus on administration of data collection, data analysis and interpretation, and reporting against project milestones as defined in the contract.
Duties & Responsibilities
Evaluation
- Manage quantitative data collection across all evaluation activities, including monitoring of response rates and liaising with clients
- Undertake quantitative and qualitative analyses and interpretation using multiple tools and methodologies
- Liaise with the project team and participants to recruit participants to qualitative interviews and case studies
- Support data collection by conducting key informant interviews
- Support data analysis through qualitative coding of interview and survey data
- Support the development of evaluation instruments and processes
- Review background documents, literature, and relevant evidence
- Support dissemination of findings by preparing data for presentations and reports
- General administrative tasks associated with the evaluation plan
Project Support
- Complete administrative and clerical duties, including meeting attendance as required
- Work with wider project team to manage project budget
- Work with wider project team to report back to funder on project progress
Information Technology
- Create data collection tools, extract data, and support reporting, via in-house survey platforms
- Extract data from in-house Learning Management Systems for reporting milestones
- Support development of e-health learning modules
- Adhere to privacy and confidentiality protocols
Planning and Reporting
- Provide accurate and timely reports for participating businesses
- Contribute to preparation of reports to funding agencies, presentations, and quarterly project reviews as required
- Contribute to monthly progress reports as required
- Maintain meticulous records
Work, Health and Safety
- Ensure self and all staff comply with all WHS legislation WHS Policy and Procedures.
- Report any WHS hazards and significant issues to Head of Operations, People & Culture, or delegate.
- Work in a safe manner, applying a duty of care.

Skills & Experience Required
Essential Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications and relevant experience in a public health or social science discipline (e.g., psychology, public health, sociology)
- Demonstrated experience in program evaluation methodologies and techniques.
- Demonstrated experience in health research or evaluation activities, including participant recruitment, study design, and implementation.
- Demonstrated experience in using quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, including strong data analysis and interviewing skills.
- Excellent written communication skills, with an emphasis on providing timely reports to funders and stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong ability to professionally liaise and build collaborative relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and time management skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively both within a team and with minimal supervision.
- Strong computing skills with Microsoft Office programs Excel and Word, and proficient skills and experience with database management and data analysis using SPSS or similar packages.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience using Salesforce CRM or socialsuite impact management
- Experience using NVivo software for qualitative analysis
- Experience in workplace mental health, e-health, and digital technology
- Knowledge of community-based research/evaluation
