Senior Consultant - Evaluation

Beacon Strategies

Are you an expert evaluator with a drive to make an impact? Looking to level up your craft with opportunities to work across a broad range of evaluation projects? Want to be part of a progressive, people-positive organisation?

WHO WE ARE

Beacon Strategies is a health and social services consultancy. Established in 2015, we exist to create a more impactful health and social purpose sector in Australia. Every day, we get to work with government agencies, regional health and hospital networks, non-profit service providers and peak bodies across the areas that really excite us — strategy, planning, codesign, implementation and program evaluation.

We're a small, close and collaborative team who are deeply committed to our values, our organisational code and doing great work for our clients.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Consultant (Evaluation), you'll get to take a lead role on a range of existing and new evaluation-related projects, from start to finish. You'll be:

  • Designing monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks
  • Gathering experiences and insights from service users, people with lived experience, community members and professionals through interviews, focus groups and community conversations
  • Supporting organisations to design data collection processes and systems
  • Analysing both quantitative and qualitative data to develop credible insights and practical recommendations
  • Developing engaging evaluation products for different audiences, such as written reports, data dashboards and short summaries
  • Presenting evaluation-related knowledge and concepts to our client partners to build their understanding and capability.

While diverse and variable, some of the areas you'll likely work on include mental health, suicide prevention, maternal and child health, youth support, disaster resilience and primary healthcare.

Most importantly, the role will share in our commitment to evaluation that genuinely makes an impact. We're all about making useful products, learning and working together, respecting ethical principles and ensuring the right level of rigour. We're not about research, stuffy academic approaches, or being the 'expert'.

Please note that the role is temporary for an initial nine-month period (until end of 2025), while members of our team are on parental leave. However, there is the opportunity for an ongoing role based on business conditions and performance in the role.

who we're looking for

You will bring existing expertise and demonstrated experience in the discipline of program evaluation and reporting, specifically in the context of health and social services.

We will expect that you have led and been involved in program evaluation of a significant nature previously, where you can show us your ability in designing the right approach, collecting meaningful data, analysing findings and forming insights and recommendations. We expect that you will have a relevant professional qualification, and would like to see evidence of continuing to develop your skills in the discipline of evaluation.

You'll be comfortable with the technology needed to do your work effectively — we mostly use Microsoft 365 suite, PowerBI, monday.com. You'll be passionate about working in a multiplayer, team-first environment and with agile ways of working. You'll be comfortable forming strong client relationships, and working in sensitive and emotive subject matter. Having experience working in a consulting environment would be desirable.

Ideally you'll reside in South East QLD or Northern NSW so you're able to spend time 'in person' in our main office in Brisbane. However, we do take a hybrid approach to how and where we do our work, so we're open to what the arrangement might look like for the right person. Importantly, you will need to be able to travel at times (including overnight travel) to complete work on site with our clients or out in communities.

what you'll get from us

  • Contract full-time or part-time role until December 2025
  • Modern office located in Brisbane CBD
  • Opportunity for flexibility that works for you and your team
  • Commitment to 'work hard, go home' — unlike many other firms, we're serious about a 38-hour week
  • An annual learning and development budget of $2,000
  • Eligibility for performance bonuses (e.g. new client acquisition)
  • Employee support and assistance
  • Friendly and inclusive culture, with social events and staff retreats

And here's something nice one of our team recently shared with us:

“What I love about Beacon is that they value the experiences and strengths people bring to the team - and they support, honour, and respect those strengths. You can feel confident in working and knowing that the skills you bring are valued.”
