About the role

The Communications Manager role is vital for developing strategic PR, key corporate communications and major reports, to position Redkite as one of Australia’s leading national childhood cancer charities. The role plays an important part in raising Redkite’s profile and increasing brand awareness amongst key audiences.

About you

You are an excellent written and verbal communicator with strong experience in stakeholder engagement at all levels of an organisation. You will feel energised by playing a key role across a breadth of important PR and communications projects, and are excited about developing the organisation’s thought leadership platform. From strategic and opportunistic PR, to speech and annual impact report writing, you have a sophisticated understanding of audiences and integrated communications.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead Redkite’s PR agency to develop and implement a national PR strategy, incorporating Corporate, Services and Fundraising key programs and initiatives.
  • Write and/or review media releases, providing key messaging, supporting statistics and relevant case studies, to enable successful media pitching.
  • Proactively identify appropriate and opportunistic news angles.
  • Organise and/or deliver media training and provide ongoing support to key media spokespeople.
  • Assist with crisis communications as necessary, providing strategic advice and expertise for reputational issues whilst closely monitoring external events.
  • Proactively conduct weekly media monitoring and communicate findings to the CEO, Executive Team, and broader organisation where relevant
  • Develop and implement a range of regular reporting mechanics/dashboards to meet business needs.
  • Write, develop and promote Redkite’s Impact (Annual) Report.
  • Support and assist the Executive Team and subject matter experts with the creation and delivery of high-quality materials for speeches and external presentations, including briefing notes, key messaging and Q&A documents.
  • Effectively lead and manage two direct reports within the communications team – social and content– to deliver an integrated and strategic media, social and content plan.
  • Provide the Communications Team with clear direction, coaching and support to build capacity and capability and facilitate professional development.

Essential criteria

  • Degree in Communications and/or Marketing with 5 years+ experience in communications.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing PR campaigns and strategies.
  • Proven track record in writing and/or pitching stories.
  • First class communication skills, both written and verbal (including presenting).
  • Ability to autonomously multi-task across a broad set of deadline-oriented tasks, with strong project and change management skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to work across (and form relationships with) all levels of the organisation.
  • Excel at prioritising and thinking creatively and influentially to partner with all levels of Redkite.
  • Prior communications experience in the not-for-profit sector with an established network of media/journalistic contacts will be highly regarded.
