About our client

Intellectual Disability Rights Service Inc. is a disability advocacy service and a community legal centre working alongside people with intellectual disability to promote and protect their rights.

Role responsibilities

You will report to the Office Manager in this varied role and support with general bookkeeping and financial administration tasks - you will liaise with an external accountancy service provider extensively and be able to build effective working relationships both internally and externally.

Working in a small team, you will have a focus on the below responsibilities but will be happy to support more broadly when needed to ensure the smooth operations of the organisation.

  • Be responsible for end-to-end fortnightly payroll, processing superannuation and required reporting for the ATO as well as processing staff/volunteer mileage and claims – and responding to any staff payroll/reimbursement enquiries.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivables, as well as reconciling monthly prepayments/accrued expenses.
  • Bank account and credit card reconciliation.
  • Maintenance of asset register and depreciation schedules.
  • Assist in the preparation of budget as well as audit – moving proactively and keeping the relevant stakeholders updated.
  • Liaise with external accountancy service provider for monthly journals, reporting, and any other ad hoc reporting needs.
  • Ad hoc administrative support such as record-keeping and appropriate storage of financial/personnel files and documents.

Essential Requirements

You will have a growth mindset and be solutions focused – and comfortable in managing your workload effectively while keeping relevant stakeholders up to date.
Previous experience in the for-purpose sector is not needed, but a genuine desire for meaningful work in the sector is a must-have!

  • Qualifications (or qualifications by experience) in Accounting or Bookkeeping, and experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with Xero and processing end-to-end payroll is essential, as well as strong computer proficiency, in particular advanced skills in Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high-level organisational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, a passion for providing great internal customer service, and the ability to build strong relationships and communicate effectively in a small team environment.
