The Orange Door (TOD) was created in response to the Royal Commission into Family Violence and operate as single area-based entry points for vulnerable families and children (including victims/survivors of family violence, families with children at risk of abuse or neglect and perpetrators of family violence) to access services when and where they need them.

NSFVS provides a Specialist Family Violence team within The Support and Safety Hub (also known as The Orange Door) in the Hume Merri-Bek Area (HMA) as per Recommendations 37 and 38 of the Royal Commission into Family Violence. 

The Orange Door operates within a matrix management structure, providing Intake and Assessment on a short-term bases, with victim survivors being referred externally for longer term support.

Key Responsibilities

Berry Street employs the Specialist Family Violence Team that sits within The Orange Door (Hume Moreland). The Senior Specialist Family Violence Hub Practitioner sits within that team and plays a critical role in:

  • Supporting staff
  • Triaging referrals
  • Family violence risk assessment and safety planning
  • Engagement of victim survivors and their children.

The role is also responsible for supervising, mentoring and coaching direct service workers and providing a framework to guide staff in their practice.

There is expected to be a suite of training programs offered as part of the induction program by Family Safety Victoria, including:

  • Integrated Practice Framework.
  • Information Sharing Regime.
  • Hub site induction and worker health and safety.

About You

You will hold a minimum Bachelor level qualification in Social Work or equivalency met through the 7 Equivalency Principles in line with the minimum mandatory qualification requirements.

  • Two years or more practice experience in the area of family violence.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the integrated Family Violence Service System.
  • Capacity to be flexible as part of a rostered Triage and response team
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical supervision
  • An understanding of the Child, Youth and Families Act 2007 and Family Violence Protection Act 2008
  • A passion for collaborating and teamwork
