About the role:
This 8-month contract (with potential for extension) will be required to work part time (22.8 hour/week or 0.6 FTE) with flexible work arrangements. This role will report into the CEO and be in charge of financial management, payroll and all BES project reporting requirements.
Key responsibilities:
- Managing and administering financial systems, to ensure efficient and accurate operation while meeting all regulatory, contractual, and legislative obligations
- Financial reporting, analysis and forecasting needed to enable decision-making
- Ensure adherence of all financial policies
- Chart of accounts maintenance
- Overseeing any audit processes and other financial compliance requirements including grant funding reporting
- Preparing and processing monthly payroll for 70+ staff across multiple payroll systems, including entering new starters and leavers, maintaining leave records and adjustments, responding to payroll-related queries
- Managing an Accounts Officer; overseeing operations, supporting staff development, fostering collaboration and addressing real time issues
- Completing monthly financials to ensure coordination of GST, tax returns and BAS finalisation
- Complete payroll tax lodgements, superannuation and reporting
About you:

Experience in the following skills required:
- Accounting degree, CPA or CA qualification, or clear demonstration of equivalent work experience
- Sound current knowledge of Australian accounting standards and reporting requirements
- Proficient with major accounting software packages
- Experience with financial management
- Experience in development and management of budgets and reporting
- Proven experience in preparing and processing payroll
- Strong understanding of payroll regulations including tax, superannuation and statutory requirements
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical, problem-solving skills and sound judgement for decision making
- Excellent organisational, communication and time management skills
- Strong computer skills including Excel, Word and ability to learn new systems
- Commitment and values alignment to the purpose of BES
Desirable (but not required):
- Business planning preferably with experience in the for-purpose sector, international development and/or international business.
- Project accounting experience
- Knowledge of New Zealand or Fiji payroll requirements
