Position Objective:

Big Group Hug is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Grants Coordinator in a part-time capacity. This role will be responsible for the successful delivery and management of our grants program, with a specific focus on growth and development of funding relationships and reports to the Manager, Fundraising & Communications. The role works closely with the broader team to identify funding opportunities from the broadest possible range of activities undertaken by Big Group Hug and package these in ways that are appropriate to the needs and interests of potential funders. 

The successful applicant will have proven success writing grant applications to make a mission driven impact. You will be a self- starter, with the drive, vision, and capability to ensure more families are helped.

Hours, Location, Remuneration and Benefits

  • 15 hours a week (2 days). Days and times to be discussed with successful applicant.
  • Working from home and/or our Thomastown location as needed.

About Big Group Hug

Big Group Hug’s mission is to mobilise community support to respond to the immediate needs of vulnerable children and their families. We provide free essential material aid for children aged newborn to 16 years through our extensive network of welfare agencies and community organisations.

Founded in 2014, our head office is based in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, in Thomastown, supported by satellite locations in Airport West and Tarneit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Identify, write and coordinate grant submissions aligned with our Theory of Change and charitable purpose;
  2. Track milestone dates and prepare updates and acquittals in a timely manner;
  3. Develop strong, positive, and professional relationships with funders;
  4. Provide research to support and enhance applications;
  5. Coordinate the fulfilment of funders’ benefits;
  6. Maintain a current pipeline register to track upcoming and current submissions, with outcomes, recognition and benefits for funding;
  7. Collaborate with Operational team to identify programs, projects and other needs for funding.
  8. Support the broader business growth strategy through the development of a structure and framework for grants;
  9. Research and identify potential grant and philanthropic funding prospects, escalating key relationships to senior management as needed;
  10. Collaborate with key staff, including Chief Impact Officer, to develop robust strategic documentation and funding proposals as needed.
  11. Guide volunteers in applying for low-level grants.

CAPABILTIES AND BEHAVIOURS

  • Ability to think strategically about the role of grants and philanthropy within the organisation and execute operationally.
  • Strong relationship management skills with a proven ability to build meaningful relationships with key stakeholders at all levels.
  • The ability to inspire others and contribute to the cause of an organisation.
  • Strong proficiency in record management and exceptional writing skills.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in grant funding/fundraising
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Proven experience in successful grant submissions
  • Financial management skills – experience in financial projections, budget setting, budget management and acquittals
  • Experience working directly with funders preferred.
  • Experience writing grant applications and/or funding submissions.
  • Proven experience developing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Exceptional administration skills including familiarity with:
  • MS Office/Sharepoint
  • Salesforce or other CRM databases
  • Asana or equivalent project management software.

Highly Desirable Experience

  • Relevant qualification in philanthropy, fundraising or marketing.
  • FIA Code Course highly desirable
  • Experience in utilising donor and grant management software
  • Proven experience in successful grant submissions
