Blak & Bright is searching for an experienced Marketing Manager who can develop, implement and lead a marketing strategy for our year-round First Nations literary programming, including our flagship festival.
The Marketing Manager will be a creative and strategic thinker who is passionate about amplifying First Nations stories and experiences.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a wide range of marketing functions, including communications, advertising, print media, digital, and social media.
The successful candidate will work closely with the AD/CEO and a small, dedicated team to develop and execute marketing campaigns that engage audiences, foster partnerships, and build community connections.
As Blak & Bright is constitutionally a First Nations led organisation, the Marketing Manager is a designated role and is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning:
- Develop & implement comprehensive marketing strategies to promote Blak & Bright’s events, programs, and brand
- Uphold and enhance the Blak & Bright brand identity through consistent messaging and visuals
- Work with partners to ethically collect data from ticketing information
Content Creation:
- Ideate, create and schedule engaging content for social media, website, email campaigns, press releases, and other channels, ensuring cultural sensitivity and relevance.
- Commission and curate content for our Blak Stories Hub in collaboration with the AD/CEO
- Create co-branded content to promote partnerships, ensuring to adhere to all relevant brand guidelines
- Create and maintain design templates for team to use, so all documents and work have brand consistency and reflect our values and quality
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with internal teams, partners, and funders to ensure all marketing efforts serve immediate and long-term business goals
- Work with partners to develop mutually beneficial promotional campaigns for specific events
- Ensure marketing requirements of partnerships are properly adhered to
- Liaise with designers and printers in the development of print media
- Upload content to website
Evaluation & Iteration:
- Monitor and evaluate marketing performance using analytics tools, providing regular reports and insights for improvement
- Maintain inventory of marketing materials, and coordinate the creation of new materials when necessary
- Continually seek new sources of prospective customer data and provide recommendations to sales and marketing leadership (planning and strategising/collecting)
Finance & Administration:
- Budget management
- Financial reporting
- Preparing reports
Cultural Sensitivity and Relevance:
- Always ensure content is culturally appropriate and relevant, highlighting First Nations voices in empowering and respectful ways
- Building relationships with First Nations networks and communities
Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Experience in marketing coordination or similar role
- Working knowledge of traditional and digital marketing, content marketing, and social media marketing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
- Working knowledge of design (Canva / Photoshop / Adobe) and email software (Mailchimp)
- Experience in managing budgets and financial reconciliation
- Experience in briefing graphic designers and printers
- Strong initiative and the ability to work independently, while also being able to collaborate effectively with others in a team environment
Desirable:
- Knowledge of and connections within the First Nations literary sector
- Marketing qualification or equivalent experience
- Proficiency with cloud-based document management systems (e.g., SharePoint, Dropbox, Google Drive) and in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
