Organisation Overview:

The Brunswick Neighbourhood House Cooperative Ltd (BNHC) was established in 1980 and serves as a vibrant hub for diverse community members, offering a wide range of programs, services, childcare and activities aimed at enhancing well-being and fostering inclusivity.

We are a not-for-profit organisation with a team of core and support staff including volunteers.

We are governed by a Board of Directors who provide direction to the organisation and make key policy decisions. This role reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Brunswick Neighbourhood House operates out of two sites offering a variety of learning and social support programs, occasional childcare, and services to the diverse community of Brunswick and surrounding areas.

Our Purpose

BNHC purpose is to build the capacity of individuals and create a healthy, safe, and connected community by offering opportunities to learn, create, interact, and engage.

About the role

The CEO is responsible to the Board of Directors for the operation, management and development of BNH, and for ensuring that BNH is operated in accordance with the Board’s policy decisions, the strategic plan and the service agreements with funding bodies.

As CEO you will be expected to:

  • Lead, manage and support staff and volunteers at the house
  • Maximise the effective involvement of volunteers in all relevant aspects of BNH
  • Operationalise the strategic plan
  • Manage and enhance best practices for all training courses and programs across the organisation, including fee for service and ACFE classes
  • Proactively manage relationships with funding bodies, ensuring timely submission of reports and meeting other requirements
  • Develop submissions for funding to realise strategic goals and plans as needed
  • Work with staff and the Board to develop and monitor the annual budget
  • Effectively promote BNH and its programs
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with local community, fundholders and key stakeholders.

Selection Criteria

We are looking for someone who has a deep understanding and empathy with our BNH purpose, goals and values and meets the following criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or sound managerial experience in the Community Sector
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
  • Experience with Human Resource Management
  • Excellent understanding of governance, strategic planning, budgeting, financial reporting, OH&S and other legislative requirements relevant to the operations of BNH
  • Demonstrated experience with innovation and growing an organisation
  • Ability to represent and advocate for the organisation professionally and strategically with community, funders, and other stakeholders
  • Skilled in planning, developing, monitoring, and evaluating high-quality programs to meet identified community needs.
