Role Overview
Brunswick Neighbourhood House has several EAL tutoring opportunities available for term 2 (April, May) and term 3 (July) start dates.
- English Conversation for Beginners Wednesdays, 9.30-12.30 pm (face-to-face)
- This is a new course offering in Brunswick Neighbourhood House’s (BNH) Learn Local suite of language and literacy courses. This is an in-person class delivered at Fawkner Neighbourhood House which will repeat in terms 3 and 4. This course is based on ACFE module Let’s Learn English session plans. The role requires weekly classroom delivery (3 hrs), and occasional meetings with the BNH program development team.

- English Conversation & Online Skills Tues 9.30 – 12.30 pm, Thurs 9.30 – 12.30 pm (online)
- This is an established BNH course which assists EAL students to acquire digital and online skills such as Microsoft Office suite and Teams. The class is supported with session plans for term 2 and delivered via Zoom. One or two tutors will be considered for this role depending on availability.

- Additional Programs from July
- BNH will expand its program in term 3. Expressions of interest are welcome from those who would like to be considered for a July start. These programs are not yet finalised and maybe planned in collaboration with the successful applicants.
- Term 3 begins 21/07/2025.

Term 2 concludes 02 July 2025. Subject to public holidays and house closures, dates of delivery may extend past the end of term.
Remuneration
These are casual, term-based teaching roles remunerated at 43.93 AUD per hour commensurate with NHACE award level 2, increment 7 under the Neighbourhood House agreement 2024.
Administration and paid meetings with the BNH Program Development Manager are remunerated at 36.88 per hour as required.
Superannuation
BNH pays the superannuation guaranteed rate (currently 11.5%) direct to the contractor’s nominated provider in addition to the base wage rate.
Key Selection Criteria
- Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

- deliver engaging and interactive lessons to learners with minimal capability in English language
- create inclusive learning environments for people from newly arrived communities.
- Planning, Monitoring and Assessment
- Proven ability to:
- plan teaching activities and resources which accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
- devise formal and informal assessment to assess the progress of each student
- evaluate and document the impact of learning and teaching activities on student’s learning growth.
- Classroom Management
- Proven ability to manage a classroom, responding appropriately and proportionately.
- Administration and Organisational skills
- A high level of personal and professional organisation including:
- classroom documentation as required
- prompt response to all contact from BNH program development and administration teams.
- adherence to BNH’s policy and procedure
Credentials & Experience
The ideal candidates will possess:
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104) or equivalent experience,
- Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) experience
- current criminal history check (less than 12 months) or the willingness to undergo such
Desirable Experience
Prior experience teaching Learn Local (ACFE) suite programs.

The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to connect with people of diverse abilities and cultural backgrounds.

Established in 1980 Brunswick Neighbourhood House (BNH) grew from its origins in Garden Street expanding to the mudbrick house in Warr Park in 2001. Today BNH programs include occasional childcare (Garden Street)
Learn Local adult education programs (Fawkner), as well as recreational and social programs at De Carle Street.
