ABOUT BODY SAFETY AUSTRALIA

Body Safety Australia is Victoria's largest and most trusted provider of school programs to prevent harm to children and promote positive relationships. We are committed to promoting childhoods free from violence where children enjoy equitable and respectful relationships. We deliver in class workshops to:

• Children and young people in early childhood education, primary schools and secondary schools
• Parents and carers
• Teachers and education staff

This is a specific call out for applications from the Bendigo, Shepperton and Ballarat Regions. Relocation to Melbourne for role NOT required. Some training at our North Melbourne office will be mandatory.

Our Head of Education Lauren French will be hosting an information session about the educator role on the 16th of January. You do NOT need to attend to be able to apply. Register to attend HERE. This will be a space to answer questions and hear from current educators about their role.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO:

• Are genuinely passionate about being change makers
• Have the ability to work with children from a broad range of backgrounds and be empathetic to their experiences
• Have an understanding of primary prevention education and the critical issues associated with sexual, domestic and family violence
• Are an excellent communicator with classroom, presentation, facilitation and/or performance experience
• A desire to learn and share knowledge with the team
• Have the ability to adapt presentations 'on the fly' and be flexible to meet the unique needs of students
• Have an interest in client liaising and relationship building with schools and early childhood centres.
• Have a full driver's licence and access to reliable transport.
• Have the flexibility to deliver workshops during the school day and with parents after hours
• Have a current Working with Children Check or willing to get one and agree to undergo a police check

Prefered Experience:

• Have a tertiary qualification or working towards one in a below area or related field;

WHAT YOUR DAY LOOKS LIKE

As a program facilitator you will travel within regional Victoria. One day may have you traveling to three different early childhood centres during the day, with another trip to a school for a parent workshop at night.

When you're in the classroom, you'll be working with groups of children from 3 to 18 years old, delivering programs, facilitating conversations and engaging in activities and games. Often you will be working solo with support from the classroom teacher.

Programs in early childhood are delivered over two sessions, with primary and secondary school programs ranging from two to five sessions. Through the multiple sessions you will be building relationships with the children and encouraging them to reflect on issues that matter to their safety and wellbeing. Prior to the start of each program, an evening workshop for the children’s parents or caregivers will be conducted to inform the community of the program details.

OPPORTUNITIES

Once a term, the entire team comes together for learning on a variety of topics based on educators interests, program development, and wider professional learning in work related topics. There are ongoing opportunities for mentorship and training throughout the year and many avenues for educator growth.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Facilitate interactive & engaging learning through discussion, games, song and activities
• Travel and deliver workshops to children and young people in metro, regional and rural Victoria
• Demonstrate the respectful and inclusive qualities we teach
• Continued learning and development around programs and best practice theory across sectors

Body Safety Australia has a commitment to Child Safety. It is an offence under the Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 2005 for a person convicted of a serious sex office to apply for this position.
