About the Position

Reporting to the Provost, the role of Chair of the Bond University Human Research Ethics Committee (BUHREC) is responsible for the overall conduct of BUHREC in accordance with the Terms of Reference and the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2023). The position provides professional leadership to Committee members and encourages best practice. The role oversees and delivers training and support to academics and Faculty-based Research Ethics Advisors.

The Chair BUHREC provides support and advice to the Provost regarding research misconduct complaints and enquiries. The Chair is also an ex-officio member of the Bond University Research Committee which meets six times per annum.

The role works closely with Faculties and the Office of Research Services to deliver high quality, timely outcomes.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Chairing nine Committee meetings per year
  • Reviewing low/negligible risk applications outside Committee
  • Reviewing amendments and prior approval outside Committee
  • Developing and delivering training to Committee members and the broader academic community
  • Satisfying reporting and compliance obligations
  • Supporting the Office of the Provost with advice related to research misconduct inquiries

About the Person

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Previous experience as a Chair or Deputy Chair of a relevant Committee.
  • Demonstrated governance knowledge and experience working on a Committee.
  • Awareness of relevant Codes and expectations in research integrity and the responsibilities of institutions and researchers, including as research integrity matters relate to human research ethics practices.
  • Manage complex ethical issues and provide considered advice in a changing environment to support the growth and development of research.
  • Experience in the conduct of ethical complaints and/or mediation.
  • Ability to embed ethics awareness and compliance and continues improvement in processes.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, including high level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Salary details

The salary for the 0.4 FTE position will be commensurate with skills and experience depending on the level of appointment. The salary for an Associate Professor A commences at $67,823.45 (full-time equivalent $169,558.64) and the salary for a Professor at $79,146.74 (full-time equivalent $197,866.85) plus 11% superannuation per annum.
