About The Bower

The Bower is a leading reuse and repair centre based in Sydney, dedicated to sustainability, waste reduction, and practical skills education. Through our hands-on workshops, we inspire and equip individuals with the skills they need to repair, reuse, and repurpose materials, reducing landfill and fostering a circular economy.

About the Role

We are seeking experienced tradespeople to facilitate introductory, one-day courses in:

  • Electrical Work (No Live Power)
  • Plumbing
  • Carpentry

These workshops are designed for Sydney-based school leavers who are interested in a trade but may not have had the opportunity to experience it firsthand. The courses provide a practical introduction and overview of each trade, giving participants a real sense of what to expect and helping them decide if it’s the right path for them.

As a Workshop Facilitator, you will:

  • Deliver engaging, practical workshops that introduce participants to fundamental trade skills.
  • Demonstrate and guide participants through hands-on activities in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Inspire and empower young people to explore a potential career in the trades.
  • Share insights and advice on what a career in the trade involves.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed at all times.
  • Align with The Bower’s values by promoting sustainability, repair, and reuse practices.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Qualified and experienced tradesperson in electrical work, plumbing, or carpentry.
  • Passionate about teaching and mentoring—prior training or facilitation experience is a plus!
  • A strong advocate for repair, reuse, and sustainability.
  • Confident in engaging with diverse groups, including young people and beginners.
  • Able to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment.
  • Reliable and well-organised, with strong communication skills.
  • Sydney-based and available for in-person workshops.
  • Availability for weekday or weekend workshops as required.

Why Join Us?

  • Flexible & rewarding work—casual commitment with real community impact.
  • Help young people explore careers in the trades—give them hands-on experience and insight.
  • Share your skills & inspire others—help build a culture of repair and reuse.
  • Work with a purpose-driven organisation—make a difference in sustainability and education.
  • Engage with a passionate community—support a movement towards self-sufficiency and waste reduction.
