The Senior Aboriginal Health Practitioner reports to the Clinical Services Manager and is responsible for providing holistic and culturally appropriate clinical and primary health care service, including health education and promotion to the Patients of Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (BRAMS). Additionally, the Senior Aboriginal Health Practitioner assumes the vital task of delivering clinical supervision and mentorship to staff and students.
Our Story:
The Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (BRAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service which has been caring for the Broome community for more than 40 years. When we first opened our doors in 1978, BRAMS was the first remote Aboriginal Medical Service in Western Australia.
BRAMS provides comprehensive, holistic and culturally responsive primary health care, social and emotional wellbeing services, and NDIS support to Aboriginal people living in Broome. BRAMS delivers more than 40,000 occasions of service each year. BRAMS delivers services in accordance with our Model of Care.
Our mission is to provide holistic and culturally responsive health and wellbeing services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. That means making our Mob healthy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day to day health services activities within the context of the BRAMS Model of Care in a professional, confidential and culturally safe manner.
- Educate patients on medical procedures and treatments, ensuring they have the information needed to make informed decisions about their health management.
- Play a key role in the management of patient care plans, including active participation in follow-up procedures and meticulous documentation in accordance with established guidelines.
- Lead the facilitation of Aboriginal Health Assessments and follow-up items, prioritising the health and well-being of the community.
- Provide clinical expertise and guidance during multidisciplinary case conferences and case review processes, fostering a holistic approach to patient care.
- Liaise with Aboriginal agencies, health clinics, hospitals, welfare providers, and fellow staff members to facilitate patient access to relevant services and programs as needed.
- Provide Aboriginal Health Workers, Trainees and Aboriginal Health Practitioners with regular supervision.
What You Will Bring to the Team:
To be successful in this role, you will have the following:
Essential Criteria
- Possession of a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
- A minimum of three years of proven experience as a registered Aboriginal Health Practitioner within a Primary Health setting.
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable Criteria:
- Community Service Experience: Previous engagement within an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Service, highlighting your commitment to community healthcare.
- Possession of sound knowledge of best practice guidelines and protocols, coupled with highly developed clinical skills and specialist knowledge acquired through experience, training, or education.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, contributing to holistic patient care.
- Proven ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision while also showcasing leadership qualities as a valuable member of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team.
- Display a high level of written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, essential for effective patient care and team collaboration.
- Exhibit excellent computer literacy, enabling you to effectively manage and record patient data.
- Possession of a current driver's license.
