About the Role

Reporting to the Research & Evaluation Manager, the Senior Research Officer will be a key member of the Transformation team, supporting the implementation of measurement, evaluation and research activities and dissemination of findings in line with Brave’s strategic objectives. The Senior Research Officer role will support research and evaluation activities that will contribute towards Brave’s aim of becoming recognised as a Centre of Excellence for Young Parents.

Contemporary lived experience of the young parents we work with is at the centre of our decision-making and program, supported by scientific evidence. We draw on this lived experience and research evidence to inform practice and continuous improvement initiatives.

Brave also generates evidence of impact to ensure the sustainability of our services and to share best practices for working with and supporting young parents with partner organisations and policymakers.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Brave’s Transformation team and lived experience advisory group members in the design and implementation of measurement and evaluation activities and research projects to achieve milestones in a timely manner
• Undertake a wide range of research activities, including qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, literature sourcing and synthesis, and development of research ethics applications and documentation
• Substantially contribute to the analysis of qualitative data using thematic and content analysis
• Substantially contribute to the organisation, cleaning and statistical analysis of quantitative data, including administrative and client case file data and data collected using standardised measures
• Store and maintain the integrity and security of project and client case file data
• Present research findings via a variety of forums and to a wide range of audiences
• Co-author reports, position papers, submissions, proposals, and research publications
• Support in building research capabilities across the organisation to enhance evaluation and research knowledge

To be successful, you will have:

• Master's degree qualification in a social science, health or related discipline - with a research focus
• Minimum three years' prior experience conducting applied research, ideally in social work, youth work or other social and community services setting
• Experience in producing literature reviews, quantitative analysis and proficiency in using statistical software packages, qualitative data collection and analysis, conducting research with marginalised populations, writing research reports or publications and delivering research presentations
• To work at Brave, the successful candidate will be required to provide a National Police Check, an Employee Working with Children Check, evidence of Pertussis (Whooping Cough) vaccination and comply with Child Safety standards
