Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Legal Counsel to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in fostering our corporate conscience, and setting the tone for our ethical culture. We are looking for a proactive team player who will be responsible for managing day-to-day corporate legal affairs, implement legal educational responsibilities, and ensure effective corporate housekeeping.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Corporate Conscience and Ethical Culture:

• Foster and promote a corporate culture of integrity and ethical behaviour.
• Develop and enforce policies and practices that ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
• Act as a trusted advisor to management and Executive on matters of corporate governance and ethical issues.

2. Legal Educational Responsibilities:

• Implement and manage comprehensive legal education programs for management and employees. For example, programs around areas of NFP, employment, and corporate law.
• Conduct training sessions to ensure understanding of legal requirements and best practices.
• Stay current with legal developments and disseminate relevant information to the organisation.

3. Corporate Legal Affairs:

• Provide accurate, relevant, and timely advice to staff on a variety of legal topics related to our sector and service delivery.
• Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts and agreements with staff, software providers, and other stakeholders.
• Manage and resolve corporate legal issues, including ongoing project work.

4. Risk Management and Compliance:

• Manage and mitigate legal risks by designing and implementing company policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the business.
• Promote and establish legal, compliance, and risk management best practices throughout the company.

5. Legal Training and Education:

• Design and deliver legal training to the business to enhance legal awareness and compliance.
• Stay up-to-date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules, and regulations that directly affect accounting, HR, payroll, and governance in the NFP space.
• Liaise with senior members of staff to provide legal insights and recommendations.

Qualifications:

• Degree (JD or LLB) from an accredited law school.
• Current practicing license to practice law unsupervised in Victoria.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in corporate legal affairs, preferably in a similar industry.
• Strong knowledge of corporate governance, compliance, and regulatory matters.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• High ethical standards and integrity.
