Our Branch

Our branch, Connected Communities, delivers programs that build on Brisbane's reputation as a growing creative, vibrant, safe, healthy and inclusive city, delivering services and facilities to residents and visitors of all abilities. We currently have a permanent opportunity for a Resident Liaison Officer to join our Safe Communities team. Our team works with vulnerable Brisbane residents experiencing hoarding disorder and squalor, as well as community service organisations, local businesses, internal stakeholders and the broader Brisbane community across the city. We are passionate about educating and informing the wider community about the complexity of hoarding and squalor, and we are looking for someone to join us in this unique and vital position.

The Role

This highly specialist role responds to residents experiencing complex and multiple forms of disadvantage including severe domestic squalor and compulsive hoarding, which place them at risk of housing insecurity, homelessness and reduced wellbeing. You would be providing critical input into the management of key community programs and services, specifically assisting in the delivery of projects such as the Hoarding and Squalor Reduction Initiative.

You would be working in a complex and dynamic space where your relationship building, resilience and stakeholder management skills will be well exercised, with your client base ranging from vulnerable residents to community service agencies, NDIS, My Aged Care and specialist counselling and decluttering services, to the Lord Mayor’s Office.

To be successful you will have:

  • Experience in providing housing and community support within a local government context
  • The ability to provide case management services to improve vulnerable residents’ living conditions
  • The ability to successfully manage projects and budget processes; and
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with representatives from other council business areas i.e. Compliance and Regulatory Services, and diverse organisations and groups, many with competing interests.

This is a highly valued role in a supportive team where you will have a direct impact on some of the most vulnerable residents in our community. If this sounds like a role you can excel in, we would love to hear from you.
