About the Job
The CEO provides leadership for Basic Rights Queensland (BRQ) as a strong, sustainable and influential community legal centre.
The CEO is accountable for strategic positioning, leading planning, management of outcomes and coordination and development of BRQ consistent with statutory and legislative requirements, funding agreements and directions of the Management Committee.
The CEO works with the Management Committee to set plans and priorities and ensures services to clients are cost-effective, efficient and appropriate.
The CEO provides overall management to BRQ and its multidisciplinary staff team and ensures the smooth operations of this busy statewide service. The CEO is the public face of BRQ and plays a lead role in collaboration, building partnerships, and relationships to sustain and grow BRQ .

About You
- You are a highly regarded, experienced and creative leader with a track record of leading successful legal or community service organisations and creating positive social change;
- You are highly skilled in advocacy, partnerships, good governance and understand government systems and processes;
- You excel in supporting, developing and managing strong teams;
- You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong and cooperative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and motivational, influencing and negotiation skills.
- You are committed to social justice principles, and understand the issues and concerns faced by women in employment, people with disability and social security recipients, cultural competence and the impact of and importance of intersectionality.
Selection Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications Law, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Business or similar, or relevant experience is preferred;
- Demonstrated success in senior management in a community or legal services sector setting with experience in leading and developing teams, program management, HR, planning, compliance, reporting, governance requirements and risk management;
- Knowledge of social security, disability and gendered discrimination, and employment law desirable;
- Proven financial management skills, including budget preparation and oversight of financial reporting with ability to pursue diverse funding opportunities.
