We’re looking for a professional First Nations Employment Advisor with relevant experience who wants to join our 2,000+ team of staff and volunteers to make a difference on a Full Time Permanent basis, based in Coburg or Fitzroy.

ORGANISATIONAL PURPOSE

In keeping with the values of BSL and the actions as set out in our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), we aim to progress Reconciliation based on recognition and respect by committing to the following:

  • Deepening and further building our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, families, and communities.
  • Acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and Traditional Ownership through engaging staff.
  • Ensuring our services are culturally appropriate and safe.
  • Increasing the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in all aspects of our organisation’s work.

POSITION PURPOSE

The First Nations Employment Advisor is responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing employment strategies for First Nations people working at BSL.
  • Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and assisting job seekers to gain sustainable employment within BSL.
  • Contributing to achieving reconciliation at BSL including the stretch RAP Plan 2021-2024.

Salary will range from $91,420.49 to $95,559.07 per annum based on skills and experience plus superannuation. 

Key Selection Criteria 

  • Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols and culture.
  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander job seekers, with an understanding of barriers to employment.
  • Knowledge of the issues and barriers facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander job seekers and mainstream organisations.
  • Well-connected within Victorian Aboriginal communities, and other communities.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships and liaise across all levels both internally, externally and with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Well-developed organisational, time management and problem-solving skills with the ability to plan workload, prioritise and meet deadlines, resolve problems and make appropriate informed recommendations.
  • Understanding of employment legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood of St Laurence.
