We’re looking for a Librarian with relevant experience to join the BSL’s Social Policy Library team, part of the Social Policy and Research Centre (SPARC) on a permanent part-time basis, based in Fitzroy.

WHO ARE WE?

The Social Policy Library is situated within BSL’s Social Policy and Research Centre (SPARC), which is the longest running and largest social policy research centre in a non-government community sector organisation in Australia. The Library has operated since 1974, supporting the organisation's research and service initiatives. It acts as a key internal information hub, with responsibility for supporting research activities and preserving archival collections. It is one of a few remaining specialist libraries in the social sector in Victoria.

WHAT’S THE OPPORTUNITY?

We are seeking a Librarian to manage the Social Policy Library and advance a vision for the library that will enable it to thrive as an information hub and archive in an increasingly digital environment.

Working within the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) unit in SPARC, the Librarian will enable a learning culture by supporting staff across the organisation to access research and evidence to inform service design, delivery and broader systemic change. The role will manage the Library’s catalogue and specialised archival collections with a small team of library staff and volunteers.

This is a permanent part time position working 30.4 hours per week. Salary will be in the range of $85,264.31 - $89,124.91 pro rata per annum, based on skills and experience plus superannuation, with attractive salary packaging options.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We’re looking for an applicant who has a passion for advancing BSL’s mission and the following key skills and experiences:

• A recognised degree in library and information studies or information management, which confers eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA);
• A sound knowledge of Library and Information Systems (LIS) as per ALIA standards;
• Experience in managing a library service / information centre;
• Excellent communication skills and an ability to build high-functioning teams and demonstrate sensitivity and respect for staff with diverse backgrounds, skills and levels of experience;
• A passion for enabling organisational learning;
• Experience working in a research setting, particularly one related to social policy or the social sciences, is desirable.
