Bubup Wilam Aboriginal Child and Family Centre, ‘Children’s Place’ in Woi Wurrung (referred to as “Bubup Wilam/Bubup”) is an Aboriginal community-controlled education, health and well-being organisation in Thomastown, Naarm. Bubup Wilam is an innovative and progressive Aboriginal early years’ service. It is managed and operated by Aboriginal people to deliver services to our families and community and to nurture strong and proud Aboriginal children in a culturally rich and supportive environment. Bubup Wilam enables children to begin their journey to reach their full human potential at an early age. Bubup reinforces children’s strong sense of Aboriginal identity and personal self-esteem to lay the foundation for lifelong learning, health and well-being by providing quality, culturally safe and accessible preventative health care and education for children aged 6 months to 6 years.
Bubup Wilam aims to ensure that local Aboriginal communities can make decisions that directly affect them and exercise their right to self-determination in a meaningful and effective way. It is an innovative program, led by the community for the community. . Bubup was awarded the National NAIDOC Award for Education and has also been rated a Centre of EXCELLENCE with the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). These achievements showcase the high quality of Bubup Wilam and the commitment to develop our model. The Financial Manager / Accountant is responsible for the organisations financial management, and will focus on implementing and maintaining financial systems to ensure sustainable operations and legal compliance is met at Bubup Wilam. This position will provide support and guidance regarding the area of finance management within the organisation.
This position will have overall responsibility for financial reporting and recording requirements including, but not limited to: producing management and financial reports, developing budgets and cash-flow reports, preparing payroll, bookkeeping, overseeing accounts payable and receivable, general ledger reconciliation, and lodging BAS, etc.
The accountant will work with Bubup Wilam teams and the CEO to generate sustainable income through applications for and securing grants and funding. This position will write reports for Bubup Wilam when required for funding.
The accountant will work closely with the CEO, and Leadership team to implement and determine the overall best practice to implement the organisations strategic plan. This position is also required to help maintain Bubup Wilam’s Excellent rating from the ACECQA.
This is an opportunity for an experienced Financial Manager / Accountant to make a valuable contribution to the wellbeing of the Victorian Aboriginal community. A commitment to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal community control is essential. Experience in the not-for-profit sector is desirable.
Accounts, payroll and HR experience are a must. Ideally, you are CA, CPA or CIMA qualified.
