The Burdekin Association is a community-based not-for-profit organisation. We use innovative and industry-leading support practices to help guide young people aged 9-24 to fully functional adulthood. Our priority is to prevent youth homelessness and family breakdown by providing a range of accommodation, care and support services to young people and their families across Greater Sydney.

The Role

We are looking for therapeutic Youth Workers with a shared vision of improving the lives of the young people in our care. We have houses for children living in Out of Home Care located across Northern Sydney, Inner West, Southern Sydney, North West, and South West Sydney. Must be willing to work in all suburbs between the areas of Bankstown to Coogee. The ideal candidate will provide person-centred support and engage with young people in a range of activities to assist them to develop their skills within and outside their home. They will work sensitively, professionally and with confidentiality when engaging with young people, carers, family and other support networks.

The Duties

  • Engage with young people in a range of activities to assist them to develop their skills.
  • Provide person-centred support to young people.
  • Support, supervise, organise, and participate in activities with young people within and outside of the home.
  • Work with young people and case managers in developing young people’s independent living skills.
  • Participate (where appropriate) together with the case manager in the development of case plans with the young people to promote life skills, engagement in social activities and addressing any additional needs (i.e. mental health, behavioural)
  • Work sensitively, professionally and with confidentiality when engaging with young people, carers, family and other support networks.

Essential Requirements

  • Must be available to work across a rotating roster including weekdays, sleepovers and weekend shifts.
  • Minimum completed Certificate 3 in relevant Youth or Community Service field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with children and teenagers in Out of Home Care or Foster carer programs.
  • Experience Working with high needs vulnerable young people who have experienced significant trauma and understanding how this effects their behaviour and emotional needs.
  • Experience using a therapeutic approach to de-escalate challenging behaviours
  • Current Working with Children Check and Police Check; or willingness to obtain.
  • Current Driver's License
  • Willingness to assist with daily living activities and independent living skills.
