Burrun Dalai provides foster care to Aboriginal children & young people of the Macleay, Nambucca, Hastings, Manning, Armidale and Tamworth Regions.

We are now recruiting for a passionate Out of Home Care Transport/Support Officer to join our multidisciplinary team.

This opportunity would suit someone with a background of Child Protection or Out of Home Care and is looking for full time role in Taree NSW.

What you are responsible for

  • Attend, participate at, and provide support to Caseworkers on supervised contacts for Aboriginal children and young people in out of home care with their birth families and significant others.
  • Transport Aboriginal children and young people as required and directed by Caseworker Managers.
  • Supervise Aboriginal children and young people as required and directed by Caseworker Managers.
  • Prepare contact reports or assist caseworkers to prepare contact reports as required.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Aboriginality.
  • Possess and retain a valid NSW Drivers Licence with a good driving record.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, with skills in negotiation and the ability to resolve issues.
  • An ability to recognise and then refer to others within the Out of Home Care Team complex or critical issues in need of resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience in a team approach to service delivery.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work autonomously and willing to learn.
  • Proven ability to liaise with management and staff, relevant government and non- government professionals, community groups, services and agencies in the provision of services.

Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of:

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in an Aboriginal organisation.
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Well-developed computer skills.
  • A willingness for further personal development in Community and Social Services including an interest in training and progression to an Out of Home Care Caseworker or similar role within Burrun Dalai.
