This full-time First Nations Practice Lead position supports our mission by supporting the continuous development of practices, systems and capabilities that allow BYS to provide culturally appropriate supports to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and young families.

You’ll be a great candidate for this role if you have:

• A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Community Development, Psychology, Social Sciences, or comparable qualification OR substantial demonstrated experience in a related field.
• Experience working within an organisation delivering services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families.
• The ability to contribute to the development and implementation of the BYS Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), manage RAP actions assigned to this role, and support RAP events such as RAW and NAIDOC Week.
• The ability to advocate for First Nations young people navigating Child Safety interventions, ensuring they receive culturally safe and holistic support
• The ability to provide practice support to team members, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and culturally responsive services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families, in alignment with program guidelines and the BYS Practice Framework
• The ability to work closely with the Practice Lead to develop resources that enhance employees’ and program managers’ ability to address emerging issues and potential complaints regarding First Nations young people.

Given the work that we do there will be few non-negotiable requirements. You’ll need to be able to have, or obtain prior to commencement:

• Working with Children Suitability Card [Blue Card].
• National Police Check clearance.
• Evidence of vaccination, immunity, or medical exemption for the following preventable diseases - Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella [Chicken Pox]; Pertussis [Whooping Cough]; and COVID-19.
