Brisbane Youth Service (BYS) has worked with young people (aged 12 to 25 years) and young families experiencing or at risk of homelessness since 1977.

We support young people and their children who are at risk and experiencing homelessness, to secure and maintain housing, address physical and mental health challenges, establish successful relationships and support networks, and access pathways to education and employment. Use your skills and experience to provide solution focused support to vulnerable young people in our community.

This full-time role of Senior Intake and Brief Intervention Worker supports our mission by providing young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with solution focused crisis and brief interventions and thorough assessment and referrals. In addition to providing support and supervision to other intake and brief intervention workers.

Remuneration: $97,377.28 plus superannuation per annum, which equates to $49.28 plus superannuation per hour

You’ll be a great candidate for this role if you have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Social Science, Psychology or similar or similar OR demonstrated experience in a related field.
  • Experience undertaking thorough assessments of a young person’s situation and support needs, including risk assessments and safety planning
  • Experience facilitating referrals for young people to access housing, legal, physical and mental health support, education and employment, and engage with their community
  • The ability to provide effective practice leadership to intake workers on a daily basis to support brief interventions and planned support work.
  • The ability to plan and support team induction processes including practice mentoring and shadowing opportunities for new team members
  • Strong organisational and planning skills and the demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritise and manage competing demands

Given the work that we do there will be a few non-negotiables. You’ll need to be able to have, or obtain prior to commencement:

  • Working with Children Suitability Card [Blue Card].
  • National Police Check clearance.
  • Evidence of vaccination, immunity, or medical exemption for the following preventable diseases - Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella [Chicken Pox]; Pertussis [Whooping Cough]; Hepatitis B and COVID-19.
