A leader in the community services industry, BYS provides housing, physical and mental health services, as well as specialist programs for young women and young families, to assist them to overcome challenges and achieve life goals. Are you seeking a role with a values-driven for purpose organisation where you can support young people in our community? Are you passionate about sharing the voices of young people? Coordinate the delivery of youth engagement activities to ensure the successful implementation of the Youth Engagement Framework at BYS.

This part-time Youth Engagement and Advocacy Coordinator position supports our mission by supporting the youth engagement and advocacy work of BYS to amplify young people’s lived experience and ensure the voices of young people influence BYS and the wider community.

You’ll be a great candidate for this role if you have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Community Development, Psychology, Social Sciences, or comparable qualification OR substantial demonstrated experience in a related field.
  • The ability to coordinate, plan and facilitate youth participation groups and engage with young people one-on-one so they can effectively and safely contribute to BYS Youth Engagement projects.
  • Knowledge of trauma informed, ethical and safe approaches to youth engagement and the sharing of lived experience.
  • The ability to research and write submissions and position statements ensuring BYS data, research and evaluation findings, and the voices and perspectives of young people are included.
  • Strong communication skills, including interpersonal skills and writing skills and the ability to tailor communication to variety of audiences
  • Strong project coordination and administration skills and the ability to work both as part of a team and independently with limited direction.

Given the work that we do there will be few non-negotiable requirements. You’ll need to be able to have, or obtain prior to commencement:

  • Working with Children Suitability Card [Blue Card].
  • National Police Check clearance.
  • Evidence of vaccination, immunity, or medical exemption for the following preventable diseases - Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella [Chicken Pox]; Pertussis [Whooping Cough]; and COVID-19.
