Senior Academic Librarian

POSITION PURPOSE

Along with general library duties, the candidate will provide direction and expertise to develop and optimise our library services, including maintaining the library management system and associated systems and procedures. As part of a small library team, effective communication skills, service and drive to provide the next generation in library services will be imperative.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Shared management of the Library Services.  
  • Maintain the Library Management System (ALMA /Primo)
  • General Library duties: including providing friendly, professional customer service; circulation desk tasks; providing referencing assistance; maintaining client records; and responding to requests for Library support.   
  • Setting the overall direction and annual plans for the Library and its services within the strategic priorities of the Institute.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Overseeing the planning, development, and maintenance of the Library collections and service, in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Promoting the Library and its information services to maximise their use.
  • Providing information literacy instruction to develop effective independent use of information resources (including orientation, user guides, and tutorials).
  • Participation in the wider life of the Institute (including events such as graduation).
  • Contribute to and participate in professional development and networks to maintain relevant levels of knowledge and skills

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Qualifications, Registrations and Memberships

Essential

A degree in Library and Information Science with the ability to demonstrate relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training which would allow professional membership of the Australian Library and Information (ALIA).    

Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience with managing all aspects of a specialised higher education library
  • Experience with using and maintaining a higher education Library Management System
  • Advanced digital literacy skills and experience in a range of electronic resources, systems, and software used in tertiary and library environments
  • Experience in the delivery of information, digital and research skills programs into the curriculum
  • Experience in developing educational resources and materials
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Exceptional organisational skills
