WHO ARE WE?

Camp Kiah provides therapeutic camps and respites for children and young people who display behaviours of concern or emotional dysregulation.

Our main cohort is young people who are at risk of or enduring placement breakdown.

Our play based, trauma informed and attachment focused approach allows young people to build rapport and relationships to create an environment where they are engaged and enjoy being. Using this foundation, we become a platform within which Camp Kiah can support care teams and ecosystems to support children and young people to maintain their current living arrangements, or facilitate support in the event of a placement breakdown.

Built on a foundation of therapeutic play approaches, Camp Kiah is a child (client) centred service, that works collaboratively and systemically with all stakeholders in the life of the child.

Position Objectives

Your goal as Operations Manager is to plan, direct and coordinate the operations of Camp Kiah. The Operations Manager is responsible for improving efficiency and increasing company profits while managing the company’s overall operations. They oversee all programs within the company including hiring staff, operating budgets, and service provision.

Operations Manager reports directly to the Managing Director.

All Camp Kiah job roles have an element of face to face contact with young people.

Core Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Advocacy

  • Child advocacy: Champion the rights and well-being of children and young people, ensuring their needs and rights are prioritised
  • Service Enhancement: Continuously improve and tailor services to positively impact the lives of children and young people, customising services to meet clientele needs.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintain consistent and relevant communication with participants, their families, and funding agencies.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with external agencies, including government agencies, community organisations, and partner institutions, to foster collaboration and support for camp programs.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and collaborations with external agencies to expand resources and support for program participants.
  • Cultural Diversity and Inclusivity: Develop systems and policies that consider cultural diversity and differences, fostering inclusivity.
  • Accessibility and Sensitivity: Ensure that all Camp Kiah programs are accessible and culturally sensitive to meet the diverse needs of participants.
  • Culture: Foster and sustain a work environment characterised by play, fun, positivity, respect, and family.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

  • Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to legislation, policies, and best practices to maintain high standards of legal and ethical conduct.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Provide accurate and timely reports to relevant authorities, demonstrating full compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Quality Improvement: Lead initiatives to enhance service quality continually, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes. Complete internal audit and maintain Quality Improvement audit spreadsheet.
  • Risk Mitigation: Ensure that risk management policies are being adhered to and engaged with for each program. Facilitate ongoing communication with all Program Coordinators and Health and Safety Officers to ensure checklists, identified hazards and hazard prevention tasks are being completed in a timely manner.
  • Accreditation and Audits: Work towards achieving quality accreditation by developing, disseminating, and reviewing procedures, actively participating in internal and external audits to ensure program quality.
  • Internal Bi-monthly Reporting: Support staff to prepare comprehensive bi-monthly reports that provides operational oversight and tracks the progress and status of all programs for the committee. Work together with Program Coordinators and CFO to gather information relevant to these reports.
  • Committee Meeting Facilitation: Agenda, execute and minute and disseminate bi monthly committee meetings to all invested parties.

Operational Management and Team Development:

  • Compliance with Standards: Work in alignment with DFFH The Standards, NDIS standards, VSP and CCYP to maintain high-quality care.
  • Operational Excellence: Manage all operational aspects, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness while aligning with organisational objectives.
  • Day to Day Operations: Ensure that all tasks to create a safe environment for programs occur in a timely manner. This includes but is not limited to; adequate resources, maintaining food stocks, overseeing contractors service provision, bookings and payments.
  • Human Resources: Facilitate the interviewing and hiring of new staff along with a relevant Program Coordinator, create and maintain staff files and provide all required information to Payroll and Program Coordinators.
  • Team Development: Foster the professional growth of the team through developing and maintaining Camp Kiah training calendar, mentoring, and coaching to enhance the delivery of services.
  • Investigative Roles: Assume responsibility as the head investigator for reportable conduct and complaints.
  • Financial Oversight: Understand budgets and support programs to review finances to maintain fiscal responsibility and alignment with benchmarks and objectives.
  • Supervision: Ensure staff supervision occurs.

Organisational Leadership and Communication:

  • Executive Management: As a member of the Executive Management Team, contribute to strategic decision-making and organisational leadership.
  • Strategic Planning: Participate in strategic planning efforts, providing insights to drive growth and sustainability.
  • Mandatory Reporting: Fulfil mandatory reporting obligations related to incidents and safety concerns, ensuring prompt and accurate reporting.
  • Intake and Assessment: Oversee the intake and assessment process for program participants, ensuring thorough evaluations of individual needs and circumstances.
  • Administration: Complete various administrative duties, such as reviewing reports, managing referrals, overseeing budgets, and facilitating communication.

Work Health & Safety

  • Health & Safety: Ensure the health and safety of all individuals in workplaces by complying with statutory obligations and OHS policies and procedures.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Ensure Programs conduct regular and thorough risk assessments, identifying potential hazards within the workplace, and implementing strategies to minimise and mitigate risks effectively.
  • Incident Management: Develop and maintain incident response protocols, including clear procedures for reporting and addressing workplace injuries, illnesses, and near misses, while ensuring safety protocols are consistently followed.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements pertaining to workplace safety, ensuring strict adherence and timely updates to policies and practices as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • At least five years experience working in the Children, Youth and Family sector.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Early Childhood Specialist and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level with substantial experience or equivalent work experience in a relevant field
  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership and management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively, as indicated by effectively working in partnership with the care team and other key stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people
  • Demonstrated ability in time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to use initiative, think laterally and strategically, to meet deadlines and produce quality work
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Understanding of requirements of working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse clients, communities and staff
  • Experience in Disability Services will be highly regarded
  • Flexibility in working days and hours
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • First Aid Certificate
  • A valid Working with Children Check & National Police Check/willing and eligible to obtain one prior to commencement of employment
