DIVISION SUMMARY

The Prevention Division aims to prevent cancer for all Victorians. This is done through community interventions, mass media, advocacy, training and providing policy advice based on the best available evidence. This involves action to affect individual behaviours and the broader physical and legislative environment to reduce cancer risk. We prioritise health inequalities, especially in relation to Aboriginal people, and in culturally diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged communities.

UNIT SUMMARY

The Quit program is a joint initiative of Cancer Council Victoria, the Department of Health and VicHealth. Quit’s purpose is to end the devastating impact of tobacco and vapes on Victorian people and communities. The Quit program has been provided with funding from the Commonwealth Government to create a National Quit™ Cessation Platform, a national digital hub to support people who smoke and/or vape to quit.

About your opportunity

We are seeking a part time Communications Advisor to join the Quit Program in the Prevention Division. Reporting to the Senior Communications & Engagement Advisor, your role is to:

• Contribute to Quit program activity, providing advice on the most effective communications channels and messaging.
• Project manage select Quit program communication initiatives, developing project plans, coordinating activities, internal working groups and stakeholders to ensure initiatives are delivered on time and on budget.
• Provide strategic advice to program managers and the marketing and communications team to ensure Cancer Council Victoria’s programs are considering and implementing appropriately targeted activities to engage priority communities.
• Produce clear, engaging, and accurate communications that position quit.org.au as Australia’s leading national cessation resource.

All about you

We are looking for someone with:

• A tertiary degree in communications, public relations or other relevant discipline.
• Substantial experience in planning and implementing integrated multi-faceted media and communication strategies / campaigns including public relations, digital, print and issues management.
• Substantial experience in delivering health messages / campaigns to priority communities such as culturally and linguistically diverse, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, LGBTIQ and people with a disability.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information, simply and clearly to a range of audiences.
