Division Summary
The Prevention Division aims to reduce the risk of cancer in the Victorian population through social marketing, advocacy, professional training and providing advice based on the best available evidence. This involves action to affect individual behaviours and the broader physical and legislative environment to support health and wellbeing. Our programs include: Quit Victoria, SunSmart, Achievement Program, cancer screening early detection and immunisation, the Obesity Policy Coalition, and alcohol policy.
Increasing participation equitably in cancer screening, early detection and HPV immunisation programs is a key goal for Cancer Council Victoria, with a focus on:
- Advancing the elimination of cervical cancer by 2030.
- Sustaining and evaluating campaigns and programs to increase bowel cancer screening.
- Advocating for, and delivering evidence-based, early detection initiatives.
- Working with communities to co-design strategies that address inequity in cancer screening participation.
About your opportunity
We are seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator to join the Prevention Division. Reporting to the Community Engagement Lead your role is to:
- Coordinate and deliver training workshops and presentations to community groups and organisations.
- Identify opportunities to reach priority population groups through innovative and culturally relevant community-based programs.
- Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with relevant community peak bodies and other stakeholders at local and state levels.
- Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based community programs for priority population groups relating to cancer screening, early detection and HPV immunisation. This includes working closely with other team members as well as internal and external stakeholders to ensure coordinated planning and delivery.
All about you
We are looking for someone with:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in public health, social sciences or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience supporting health strategies and programs for specific population groups.
- Ability and willingness to work independently, demonstrating a high level of initiative, including the ability to implement multiple projects concurrently.
- Proven experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and/or culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
- Proven experience in training, presenting and communicating health messages to priority populations.
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative partnerships with individuals and organisations.
