Founded by young cancer patients, our mission is to provide essential programs, services, and resources that positively impact the lives of 12-25 year-olds facing their own diagnosis, dealing with a close family member's cancer, or grieving the loss of a loved one. We are now seeking a Psychosocial Clinician to join our team where you will provide evidence-based counselling interventions, addressing themes such as grief, loss, and bereavement, as well as conducting assessments, developing tailored support plans, and case management. This is a high-impact role for a qualified clinician with a natural ability to connect and support.

About our role

• Conduct individualised psychosocial assessments and surveys that help identify needs and wellbeing.
• Work collaboratively with young people to establish individual support plans to achieve their own self-directed goals.
• Provide ongoing individual support to young people, including evidence-based counselling interventions, psychoeducation, care coordination and case management through a mix of Telehealth, face-to-face services and outreach.
• Respond to and support the psychosocial needs of young people, including processing themes such as grief, loss, and bereavement.  
• Assist with case management and referrals to suitable resources within the local networks and liaising with family when appropriate.
• Provide short-term interventions to parents with a cancer experience, focused on parenting through cancer.
• Liaise with hospital social work teams, oncology staff, outpatient clinics, schools and the wider community to establish and build effective cancer, medical and psychosocial networks.
• Participate in regional tours at times to promote Canteen to regional communities.

About You

• Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or related Allied Health Field
• Experience delivering counselling or therapeutic interventions.
• Experience administering assessments, co-ordinating care and managing risk.
• Innate ability to engage with young people and carers/parents. 
• Demonstrated skills in decision making, problem solving, negotiation and crisis management. 
• Ability to liaise with internal and external agencies, and across shared-care models. 
• Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of young people (12-25 years) and their families. 
• Demonstrated computer literacy. 
• Hold or be eligible to obtain accreditation, membership or licensing from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA), Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or equivalent national registering body 
• Driver’s license and First Aid Certificate is essential.  
• Outstanding communication skills and a natural ability to connect
• A compassionate values-based approach.

*Due to the nature of Canteen’s work, you will be required to (very) occasionally work weekends and evenings. Advance notice will be given when this is the case, and Canteen does have a Time off in Lieu policy for taking leave as agreed with the supervising manager.
