The Role

The Senior Application Developer will provide technical leadership and expertise on application development projects of all sizes for Pacific Australia Skills, utilising formal software development and project management methodologies.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the Pacific Australia Skills EMIS, corporate and educational software systems
  • Provide technical guidance to strategic communications Team Leader to maintain the Pacific Australia Skills website including coordination of layout updates requested by content owners and regular spot of checks of site functionality
  • Undertake regular research initiatives (testing and evaluating) to support recommendations for new software for Pacific Australia Skills as directed by the ICT Manager.
  • Develop and maintain the Application Architecture of Pacific Australia Skills with relevant information.
  • Evaluate existing applications to reprogram, update and add new features and
  • Complete tasks allocated via the ICT Service Desk.
  • Develop and administer rollout plans for new or upgraded software for staff and students in use at Pacific Australia Skills including quick guides/support material to ensure successful adoption.
  • Ensure effective integration of Pacific Australia Skills software platforms.
  • Maintain all SQL servers across Pacific Australia Skills infrastructure that includes all maintenance task.
  • Maintain a current knowledge and awareness of developments in web design and programming languages, server-based database development and associated technologies and software applications.
  • Participate in the planning of the Pacific Australia Skills overall information and communication
  • Technology systems operational and development strategies.
  • Review and develop work instructions and technical documents to accurately represent application design and code.
  • Assist in the development and provision of appropriate staff training in ICT technologies and web-based systems.
  • Participate in relevant working groups, as required.
  • Help manage and address security risks through an effective vulnerability management program and undertake regular security reviews and respond where required, providing advice on emerging security issues, threats and trends to provide visibility and assurance to the ICT Manager.
  • Assist with identifying and escalate gaps in visibility, intelligence and technology that could improve the efficiency or efficacy of the Cyber security services.
  • Provide a high level of customer service both internally and externally.

Selection Criteria

Essential Experience and Knowledge

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Developing applications in an enterprise environment
  • Experience working with C#, ASP.Net and SQL server.
  • Knowledge and experience of application deployment and Source Code Management using online repositories.
  • Enterprise level experience working with Microsoft O365 Technologies (SharePoint Online)
  • Experience developing technical documentation for software projects.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines, automation, and integration of development and operations workflows
  • Well-developed analytical and conceptual skills including the ability to evaluate, plan and manage projects.
  • Experience working on an aid-funded project, preferably Australian Government.

Desirable

  • A Degree qualification in a related field and minimum 3 years’ experience in software development and development preferably in an education/training environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in website administration using CMS similar to (Sitefinity).
  • Experience in coding languages and different platform (C# and or ASP.net).
  • Experience in managing SQL server.
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills in English with the ability to deliver in-house training to staff.
  • Proven ability to develop system documentation, policies and procedures.
